I'm still deciding if I should bother replacing my diff fluid. Has anyone felt any noticable improvement after doing just the diff fluid change only (separately to the trans fluid)?

MAKE SURE YOUR CAR IS LEVEL WHEN FILLING AND DRAINING! I did this by jacking up both the front and rear and placeing 4 jack stands(all the same hieght) on the OEM lift points on the pinch seam/rail. Quote:
I replaced my diff fluid yesterday after 10,000 miles of mixed highway and abusive driving, it looked worse then my trans fluid. the drain plug was entirely covered with shavings and the fluid itself was glittery from shavings. My trans fluid was also glittery but not to the same extent as the diff. I cant say anything definetively about difference in driving feel since i changed both trans and diff for the first time both at 10,000miles. However, before changing my fluid i would get a "jolting" feeling from the rear when i accelerate after changing gears, ive only put about 100miles on the new fluid(motul gear 300 75w90) but it hasnt "jolted" yet and everything is 100% smoother compared to my oem fluids. But not sure if this was a result from the trans being smoother or if the diff oil actualy made a difference but based on the glitter i got from my diff id say change it at some point.

Thanks. And that will be exactly how I do it too. I'm all about some jack stands.

Glad to see some people doing this! This is a very tight trans, and as such has a harsh break in period. New fluid is almost necessary!

Changed mine at 8200:
![]() I don't think the metal shavings on the plug were abnormal. The shavings were comparable to other manual transmission cars in the past with 30-50k miles.... but I've also changed out fluid at 10k with pretty much the same amount of shavings. I swapped mine out to Amsoil 75W-90 and noticed a small difference in shift feel. Downshifts and rev-matching are better, but it wasn't as dramatic of a difference as some others have suggested. Perhaps that is a byproduct of driving style. -alex |

I did both at the same time and noticed zero difference. I justified it because I wanted to see how much metal had accumulated on the drain plugs. Wasn't terrible but I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of shifting feel improvement. I used Motul 75w90.

We change it every 30k miles on street driven cars. On track driven cars we change it 1x a year, usually at the end of the season.

Thanks for the info. I was disappointed because I have read posts about folks raving that all notchiness and grinding magically disappeared after swapping out the factory fluid. Not the case with Motul. At least not in my car.
