Yep, I'm aware. Just was trying to give an idea of how loud the header with stock cat back is inside the car. As in, it is quiet enough to be overpowered by intake noise from the soundtube.

Maybe on the high end. I don't really go above 4-5k most of the time so on the down low side not really.

so no fitment issues with the j2? its by far the cheapest front pipe i see. ive had my bouts with knockoffs so im just worried at this price point its just another knockoff of a knockoff. granted its just a pipe with a couple bends and flanges at each end, hard to mess up.

My 3" downpipe/overpipe just turned my FR-S into a race car. The flow feels so nice compared to stock and the sound is glorious with no rasp. Two resonators in the entire system to keep the rasp out. Now I just need to get rid of the crappy ass stock header. That thing is so restrictive and has an awful design. (I'm mainly mad at the threaded bolts built into the header and not holes there instead)

There are minor issues such as the angle of the mounting bracket and slight misalignment at the flanges. Nothing a little bit of muscle can't fix. You have to expect this especially in something priced so low. I'm sure you have some similar issues with a high dollar part to a lesser extent. I'm always looking for best bang-for-buck or "dollars/benefit" ratio. For $100 part I really cannot complain.

I use the j2 front pipe as it was the only >2.5" one available at the time. I'm not changing it. Fits great, and it's a pipe.

Thanks for posting the results about the front pipe. How a car's performance feels after a new part install is more important.

The catalytic converter is always the most restrictive part of any exhaust. Changing it to a test-pipe (front pipe) will make a huge difference in the flow.

What brand was the front pipe that you went with?

I Know all of our customers that installed a Berk front pipe on their cars loved them and felt a lot of throttle response increase, while the customers that put the berk Track pipes on said they felt more high end power!

I believe a lot of our customers that buy the Berk products, believe in the same thing as we do in terms of quality, customer service, warranty and also they are built in the Orange County, CA!

Yeah, the overpipe/frontpipe was a huge restriction, probably the biggest minus the awful subaru header.

I went with J2 2.75" catless for its diameter and cost.

Awesome! Is your cat-back custom to 2.75" as well?

Currently running the factory cat back exhaust. I plan on fabricating my own single sided cat back system. I'm debating whether to use 2.75" tubing or 3" from the mid pipe back and if I should install a 2.5" overpipe or modify the 2.75" front pipe to include a 2.75" over pipe section. Waiting on the n/a people to post up some dynos with their 3" cat-backs and header-backs.

All the combos of diameter I'm considering:

1. 2.5">2.75">2.75"

2. 2.5">2.75">3"

3. 2.75">2.75">2.75"

4. 2.75">2.75">3"

Or maybe even

5. 2.5">2.75">2.5" to maybe keep exhaust velocities up.

Leaning toward 1. and 2. right now since most of the collectors on the ends of the headers tend to be 2.5" or maybe smaller. Plus it's probably not a good idea to go too big right after the header.

My main concerns are of course peak output, but I don't want to loose too much <4000rpm and partial throttle power. This doesn't seem to be much of a problem as all of the exhaust options from stock has pretty much seen increase in the low to mid range with and without a ECM tune. Also, I don't want it to be obnoxiously loud.
