Some people like the button-less steering wheel, like me. I think the best option for us customers would be for Subaru to offer different steering wheels like Porsche does (controls/no controls, paddles/tip). But then that wouldn't be cost-efficient for Subaru I imagine.
What did you say to get them to reimburse you?
Might have to call tomorrow

Can't say I agree with that, they could place them to not interfere with 'performance driving'. All of these nice amenities (keyless entry/start, auto climate control, autolink dimming mirror, heated seats) and I need to reach to adjust radio. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to sound like a priss but it is the only interior feature this car is missing. Every other car has these controls.

The thing is they know this and intentionally left them off. It's not like they left it out and then realized people would want them, they knew people want them and still made the decision. Look at honda, Civic Si only comes in manual, people would buy an auto but they don't offer it anyway.

I would say the only oversight is not putting a track forward/back button on the head unit, groping at the touch screen to change songs is a bit annoying. Not sure but I think the 2014 has a slight different head unit with these exact buttons?

I know they didn't accidentally leave it out, that's whats annoying about it lol. I get that they want this car to be all about the driving experience. But at the same time, many many many people DD this car and easily accessible radio controls would be nice. It wouldn't affect anyones appreciation for this car having those controls.

Look at the other "purist" cars like the s2000. It doesnt have it and I'm pretty sure the Lotus Elise doesnt either. I can understand why people want it though and I would too on my second car.

I pretty much copied @Abenaki 's complaint and filled out the contact form for SOA from this post. Told them I bought the BRZ recently, so should it not come with the 2013 maps instead of the ones from 2011?

I emailed a complaint to them a few months ago, and got the "sorry, but that's what came in the radios, have a nice day" reply.

Dang, maybe it depends on which representative you get...

I made a thread about resolving this issue awhile ago: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37040

I waited until the 2013 maps came out and literally just yesterday downloaded the maps and sent the receipt by e-mail to SOA for a refund. One big note: DO NOT E-MAIL THEM. Call someone. Talking to someone over the phone and being polite is much more likely to get you the results you are looking for.

Be insistent, buying a 2013 car with maps that are 2 years old is a ripoff. They should offer to reimburse you for a one-time map update.

Also, for some reason the Utah map wouldn't update, I'll try again later but Utah is one of 4 or 5 states I've never been to so it's not that upsetting. The way it updates the North America maps is state by state, which is actually pretty smart in my book.

I'd offer to rip and upload the maps but I wouldn't even know where to begin, and I wouldn't want to get on Subaru's bad side since they read this forum.

Eventually I'm looking at one of the control stalks that plug right into the factory radio for controls on the steering column. Since I have the push to start, mounting it where the keys would normally go looks like the best option.

Your thread was the one I was looking for when I found out I had 2011 maps - I was looking in the wrong section of the forum lol (Electronic/Audio/Nav)

I updated mine last night, had to "restart" the install one time; it stopped at 49% but when I started it up again it just continued where it left off thankfully. Have all the states + Canada + it looks like some parts south of the border (I might be wrong about this last part though).
