Has anyone updated their firmware or maps? My maps are out of date and want them updated but don't want to spend $150 on them as listed at https://subaru-na.naviextras.com/sho...&selectedTab=3 which has 2013 Q1. Is there any other [free] way? I would rather spend triple the cost of those maps and buy a new unit, that probably offers free updates, being the stock unit sucks.

That would be great, but I doubt they exist. I couldn't find anything atleast.

How old is your car? When did you buy it?

I bought mine at the end of August and Subaru gave me one update for free. Had to buy the maps and waiting on the refund.

Bought it on May 29 of this year, production date is Apr 13 I think, why would it even have the old maps? Should I call Subaru of America or go to dealership? Did you get the 13 Q1 maps?

Call Subaru customer support and bitch at them. I'm pretty sure they didn't have the new maps when your car was manufactured but it doesn't hurt to try.

What date does your map license file show? I just upgraded mine, via a complaint to Subaru HQ, and my version is the same as yours. My license file date is something 2013 .... I.e. Q1. Don't go by the date printed on the card, they do not replace the original cards, they just update them.

Any way you can copy the maps from the SD cards? If so, just find someone who bought the car recently (with the new maps), copy the maps from his SD card and buy him/her a 12 pack. Then call it a day.

Or would this all not work? I'm no expert, just throwing out an idea.

Can someone that has the newest maps post a torrent for them? Or send it to me directly via dropbox\ftp and I'll do it. I'll paypal you $ for a 12 of your favorite beer.

Don't waste your money. To upgrade maps you'd need proprietory software. Otherwise the checksum won't match what's flashed into the build and the navi won't start. Someone should come up with the checksum generator/flasher first.

If you image the whole SD card, there should not be a problem with checksums.
