Lets also not forget about unintended acceleration. Whether its a gas pedal design flaw, or electronic glitch or whatever, they end up just blaming improper floor mat installation (due to overlapping 2 mats together or using aftermarket mats). |

The Root Cause that was determined by the NTSB (if memory serves) was that the gas pedal installed on the vehicles that actually had the U.A. was too long, and it would get caught on improperly installed floor mats. Electronics were investigated, but it was found that the throttle control circuit would fail or burn out before it would cause U.A.

If it makes the OP feel any better, I've considered, and still am considering trading in my FRS. I love the car, but want more power. I'm exploring my FI options, but part of me says if I'm going to dump $5000 into it, I might as well take that $5000 and buy something with a V8.
But nothing with a V8, that I can afford, will drive or handle as nice as the twins. It makes me smile every time I drive it....just usually not when accelerating. |

The only issue I've had with mine is one of the rails was rubbing on the driver's side window which scratched it. The dealer replaced it right away and it's fine now. I had a bit of trouble with 2nd gear, but I changed the fluid to Redline and it's fine now. I have rattles on my passenger side speaker panel with heavier bass, but that's an issue with most cars. I have not had any of these other issues. Any first year product in any category can have higher than average issues.
I have the BRZ Limited and I'm impressed with the overall quality. I look inside other new cars and they seem really cheap and uninspired. I really like most of the interior. I believe the BRZ Limited is a bit nicer inside compared to the FR-S though. |

When I ordered my FR-S, the CEL problems were very new, and I couldn't risk having my commuter fall under some issues that would strand me. I've seen posts here that say "First year car, bro, it is what you get". After a very long time of watching, I decided against it.
Well, I bought a 2013 V6 6MT Accord Coupe about 7 months ago after cancelling my FR-S order, and haven't had anything but excellent performance since then. Not a single issue in a first year car, with about 280 HP and tons of tech. |

I'm glad you brought Toyotas last sports car. the other Toyota sports car forum(Spyderchat) rallied behind early model owners and came up with several ways to fix this problem. Several warnings were posted and a lot of people benefited. On this forum it seems you bring up a problem/issue and you get chastised, a lot of denial and defensiveness here rather than "lets put our heads together and fix it." that probably more than anything is why the op made such a depressing post.

And that right there is why the Accord is not fun to drive but the FR-S is. The Honda is without question a better commuter car but it is not a sports car. It sounds like you made a great choice that fits your needs perfectly.

This is pretty much how it is everywhere else though. You have a small % of people who are able to step back and analyze the whole situation (and help you with a reasonable solution)... Then you got the large % of idiots getting all up in your face because the said situation doesn't apply to them. Either they got lucky with no lemon, they're egocentric or too stupid to realize any flaws (or maybe all of it combined). You shouldn't judge everyone here just because of the small % of autistic manlets.

I agree there is a lot of good info here. as time goes on I'm confident that this forum will be a better resource than the dealer when it comes to everything from rattles to complex engine management issues.

That all scion rental cars have DI failure and aren't being used anymore. And scion is closing most of the dealerships and is going the way of Saturn. So excuse those who chastise an seem in denial.. Based on these kinds of posts mostly presented by you, without fact or follow up.. What did you expect? |

Having read most of this I am going to make an assumption and suggest that the venting/anger/frustration that is clearly apparent throughout this thread may also have been present when you spoke to the dealership, which would do you no favours at all! Having been in a customer service role all my working life I would advise you to take a deep breath, explain your problems in a firm but reasonable manner and if you do so, it is likely you will get better results than if you just unload on someone. :happy0180:
