Read my other posts, I am using shell. Unless that one station is selling something other than 91 for 91. We'll see if the chirping goes away as I'm back to my original shell station.

i got my chirp fixed today.

i went to the dealership and told them the chirp starts to happen when the car has been running for around 20min and the engine is warm. The dealership said the chirp is normal and its from the direct injection. chirp fixed! ...not...

Well, they're partially correct ... HPFP is part of the direct injection system :p

But yeah, all delaerships are like this regardless of the brand, oh, that issue, no it doesn't exist

Print and show them this. IMO, the revised pump still has the same issue. I guess I'll have to nickname the car squeeky now.

Had the pump replaced (for the second time) 2 months ago. The chirp usually disappears for the first little while. Recently it is starting to slowly, but surely, get louder again.

Dealership: London, Ontario.

i've basically come to this conclusion - i'm not going to waste my time and try and schedule a one-off appointment to get this issue fixed because it's a known issue but not detrimental to the operation of the vehicle. i'll have it replaced eventually and if the issue comes back, c'est la vie.

What may help is to get people to sign off on some letter or something and send it to Subaru Canada demanding that Subaru address this issue with the chirping. Numbers speaks.

Took the car out for a bit, so it had about 20 minutes running time on the highway, and noticed when I got home, the chirping was significantly less than last week.

So the wild theory I have is that the 2nd last fill up at one of the Shell stations that I never go to was selling something else other than 91, while the last fill up at the Shell I always go to, seems to have lessened the chirping a fair bit.

Unhappy

FYI: Shell 91 since day 1 (11km ODO). I'm now at 5100km. I had a brief case of the crickets around 3500km when I spent a lot of time in stop and go traffic. They went away with a fresh load of fuel and some highway cruising.

My last four (4) fuel ups have all been at different Shells, and my crickets have never been louder. 600-1100rpm. I don't have any exhaust modifications, so I can safely say that at a light, and pulling away, the loudest sound anyone hears from my car, is the fuel pump, and the DI noise from the engine bay. It's pretty darn sad for a 'sports cars'.

Yesterday I was cruising around with a buddy who has a Lotus w/ Stage 3 exhaust. I just lowered my windows and turned the heater on, and had eargasm after eargasm listening to his car

At 11000km now, always had chirps 91 Shell all fuel ups except picking up car from dealership, was worse when I picked it up with 94 Petro in it. Still waiting for the fix, in the meantime have your music blasting and it should be okay

Hi I'm back... With chirps... Hit me at around 4,500km, barely noticeable at first, keeps getting worse.

Weird thing is I met an frs owner in my town yesterday, talked to him for a bit then went for a good drive. Me and him use the same shell station, and he didn't know what the chirps were until I showed him... Hounded him for what he did different looking for a difference, and all he said he's ever added was some octane booster for a short time, 3 tanks if I remember. So... Yea same gas and he doesn't get them with double the mileage... WTF.

I'm concluding that maybe it has something to do with gas but more so, the design of the HPFP. On some days it doesn't chirp, other days it chirps a bit and other days it's really loud.

I think it has less to do with the fuel, and more to do with the amount of time spent in DI fuel mode. At first, I never drove the car if I suspected I'd be caught in stop/go traffic. I had no HPFP chirping.

Now my driving is a lot more efficient, and I'm spending more time where the engine is using DI, a couple times lots of stop/go, and guess what mega chirps. I suspect that all HPFP's in these cars will develop chirping, it's just a matter of time.

From what I've read, direct injection is used at all times for both high and low engine loads. Port injection is used also during low engine loads (similar to what others like Audi is doing with their newer direct injection engines). Port injection also used during cold-start.
