Get your dealer to replace the passenger's side dash trim as your's is coming off like mine which is being replaced this week.

Look at the panel next to the radio trim panel see how doesn't set flush with the radio trim panel.

Quick question. This is my first manual car, so I am still learning the in's and out's of driving. I'm up to about 1300 miles and about 6 weeks of driving experience. Should the car ever be able to go from gear to neutral without the clutch pedal being pressed first? My hand slipped and it fell from 2nd to neutral, and I was really confused. It happened once more after that, but I'm not going out of my way too do it over and over again, I don't want to damage anything.

I could see it happening if you were on constant throttle or going from on to off throttle when your hand slipped. At those points it wouldn't take much effort to disengage the gear. Technically, you could change every gear after launch that way without using the clutch, but there's no need since things sound awful if you get it wrong.

The one time you don't want the gear to disengage is when using cruise control. Should the trans jump out of gear into neutral the car will slow so the cruise control computer will call for more and more throttle to maintain set speed unless you disengage cruise with one of the several methods available (brake, clutch, button, lever and maybe e-brake).

Actually, if the car comes out of gear, it will automatically disengage the cruise control, if I remember correctly.

I thought I tested this back in early July and the engine started revving when forced out of gear without the clutch but am no longer 100% sure. Maybe I'm thinking of one of the other Toyota M/T's in use. I won't be driving my FR-S today, can you could test and confirm?
