Don't all new Scion's come with Toyota Care for 2 years for free?
ToyotaCare Scheduled Factory Maintenance Covers: 9
Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
Replace engine oil and oil filter 10
Rotate tires
Multi-point vehicle inspection

I brought mine in to the local dealership because the shifting felt funky. I asked if they could also do an oil change since I have always changed the first 2500 miles of oil on a new car. They did all that for free

I'm going in today for my first complimentary service. I live a mile and a half from work and have less than 4k miles. But I've had my car since February, so the service is complimentary from a time stand point (7 1/2 mo).

I requested to get my oil changed at 1,000 to clear out engine particles. They used that as my first under the Toyota Care plan, and I just had my second done at 8,000. You shouldn't have to pay anything for your first 5 changes as long as you are following the recommend manufacturer's maintenance.

Under ToyotaCare, there are only 3 oil changes covered for the FRS. Only the conventional oil vehicles (plus a few trucks that ran 0w20) get 5 free oil changes. For instance, a Prius gets 5 services, but 2 oil changes.

I got my first one at 1,000 miles, my second at 6,000 miles, and about to get my third next week at 13,000 miles. It will count towards my 15,000 one.

Everything BUT the FRS huh? That's interesting. They definitely treat this car differently.

I know that on subaru's website I can log my own service. Dont pay that much for an oil change DIY and log it.

I just got an email from my dealer about the recommended 5k mile service? I'm actually just over 3,000 miles.

Those are typically pre-generated based on driving habits of the typical driver. There is no special script for the FRS in at least our dealers system. Those mailers confuse the hell out of people who do not drive much (the elderly)

My car is probably around 4,000 miles, but is at the 7 month mark and I feel it's time to get an oil change. Am I due for a complimentary one from scion or do I need to pay for it?
I went for my 7500 mile service at 5000 miles. I just asked the dealer if I could use it early. I plan to use my 15000 mile service at 10000 miles. Basically you get three free service trips and you can use them whenever. If they charge you then that's BS. I'd ask them first though just to be safe.

I always get the first oil change done around 2k-2.5k miles to get the engine particles out. I went to the dealership today and they told me they don't recommend it because Toyota "break-in" oil is different. And they said to wait until 7.5k miles. I'm thinking BS? Anyone ever heard of this?

I took mine in yesterday at just under 4k miles since it was more than 7.5 months. No hassle, no question, free of charge.

Absolutely correct. Follow manufacturers break in requirements.

Modern engines are very tight from the factory. Break them in gently for 1,000 miles then drive the wheels off it for another 5,000 miles or no more than six months from purchase.

After initial break in you should be driving at full throttle whenever possible and reaching red line as often as possible, preferably both at the same time. That will seat the rings and make sure there are no no-wear ridges in the bores.

Just don't load up the engine before 1,000 miles.
