To do it right, turbo kit+ ecutek+bigger injectors+fuel pump+etc. $5k to 6K, full exhaust $1500, clutch $1000, gauges $300, radiator $350, oil cooler $600, tuning (I'm guessing) $1000, plus labor you're looking at over $10,000 for a done-right hotrod turboed twin that will run hard and stay together.

I don't like to look at what I have spent. I don't like thinking about how much more I am going to spend. I do enjoy every bit of money that goes into it and to me that's all that matters.

Lets put it this way, besides the vortech, I clump my upgrades in a 3k bracket, and then I do that every 2-3 months.
IE wedsports/tires/flex-fuel is one 3k block Vortech was its own block Catach can/ dampners/exhaust/LWCP/cf drive shaft/oil cooler. My next block is breaks/wastegate/EBC/e85 Your build will never be over, just find away to control it in a way where you have money for normal life and don't go into debit... Car parts on a credit card is a no-no in my book, since the car has its own loan.

Garrett turbos aren't cheap, and for the kind of reliability that comes with the name Garrett, I'm totally fine with spending between $4k-$7k on a turbo kit that's reliable and gives me good power as well. Considering everything that goes into a turbo kit, the prices on these kits are actually pretty inexpensive as it is when you come to find that a good Garrett Turbo is a over $1000, then the intercooler etc... There's a lot of stuff. I'm actually quite happy that this car takes turbos well, because if it's anything like E46 M3's where turbo kits START at $13,000, I know the story would be completely different. Hell two E46 m3 turbo kits, and you can get a brand new FRS

Asides from the individual "off the shelf" components, have you priced out custom machined brackets and such?
$5k is a lot of money, but to say it's over price... not really. |
