WTF wheel/rim prices

Maybe some one can help open my eyes... I come from big body SUV and mini truck world.. Where you can sped $4k on rims and tires and in 6 months maybe get $1k out of them.. eBay/craigslist is full of expensive rims going for pennies on the dollar.. So is it because this car is new and it's the off size of the 5x100.. That people sell rims and tires that are used and ask for maybe 300 less then what they paid.. I see the more popular Nissan and othe popular 5 lug sizes go for a lot less.. And while I don't expect to see some TE37 going for 800$ or anything I've seen the Nissan fitment going less then half, and other 350/370 sized used wheels for less the 1300-1500$ yet the 86 community still asking for a premium that I could buy brand new at some shops with a decent discount.. I mean 1500$ rims and 800$ tires and people asking for 2100 after 6 months of use..

Maybe I'm just used to that other world I came from, maybe it's because the car is still new... Maybe it's because the uneducated can't find good deals and pays discounted new prices for used stuff.. Idk..

Maybe it's just me lol

You know, you're not the only one feeling that way. I'm coming from the 5x114.3 crowd and it's quite bothersome that anything 5x100 is either nonexistent, or grossly overpriced. People seem to be quite proud of their 5x100 stuff from what I've been seeing; and that's browsing local and used.

16" 5x100 Subaru fitment steelies with one season used winter tires still asking $800! WTF?! Or stock WRX rims with used mediocre tires still asking $750. GTFO!

I can't justify dropping 4k on wheels even though I like the look of them I usually spend more on tires. On my mini. Truck I bought cheap tires though

I came from the Legacy GT Crowd (5x100) and completely agree. Stuck with stock wheels and nice tires for the 5 years I owned it because I couldn't justify the cost over all the performance goodies.

(I had a fully built motors with FMIC and a whole bunch of extras.)

If anyone is curious:

Thanks chad, my only problem is knock off wheels.. I watched a friend going around a curve not even fast just street speeds around a 50mph posted curve and the left front wheel just broke apart.. I've steered clear since then.. I refuse to buy a Rota.. True I don't know the condition of that wheel.. It was never tracked but a pothole could've got it and cracked it and that little force was all it need.. But when it happens in front of you.. Idk.. I've never heard of Klutch, but will look into them, I like that 5 spoke they have a little.. About the only one that fits my taste.. But if it's the same as Rota or XXR I'd have to pass on the company.. Right now my choice looks to be a set of enkei RPF1 or what ever.. Maybe spend 500$ and get the new gram lights.. Idk..

I picked up a set of 17x8 rpf1 on cl with tires for 600.

Also have a couple sets of 5x100 sti bbs for my forester that were found cheap a few years back.

Deals are out there in 7.5 and 8" widths if you put in the time searching, the gouging seems more apparent with 9" widths in 5x100.

For instance I just seen some volks TE37 for 3300... I don't know if they have some sort of warranty but if they do, do they transfer?? I know they never been used, but for 200$ more I can get a new set with paperwork from a vendor.. 2800 I'd look at them.. It suck things change but I can't see why people sell rims at discount prices and not used prices lol

See at the track I can see why that matters.. On the street, that 3-4 lbs difference doesn't mean much.. To me at least.. It's some thing that just really hardly noticeable.. I noticed the 20lbs a wheel difference on my suv's but the couple cars that I've drove with slightly heavier or lighter wheels.. It was something that I could just barely feel..

I would never recommend as track wheels, just some solid street wheels for a great price. Compared to other street wheels they really aren't that heavy.

That would probably make a difference.. I like the five spoke design.. I couldn't find any weights listed for any of them.. Stock is what 21, and that inch wider would make a difference, I could run 25lb rims, but 27 would be pushing to far for me

The only reason those wheels hold their value in the 5x100 community is because they market is small. It's a sellers market and they can charge a premium for wheels since there's not many options, the used market is small, and because there's a high demand.

I ordered Work Meister S1's for dirt cheap through connections, and I can most likely sell higher.

I do agree it sucks to find wheels. I just ordered new ones

Glad your results are great with them... I seen first hand what happened on a street car.. I've also seen time attack cars with stance coil overs, but you won't see me running those craptacular coilovers.. I personally won't use knock off crap.. That's all I see it as.. Crap, I have heard they are getting better at their manufacturing process.. But after first hand experience I won't run them
