I have a mostly light downhill drive from SLC to my place about once a month -- 45 mins all freeway. Got the trip display to show over 40mpg when reset after getting on the freeway. 6AT here. It was awesome.
Also just took her from SLC -> Vegas, San Luis Obispo, Carmel, Monterey, Tahoe, back to SLC and averaged 33.5 according to trip - that's including some spirited driving on the PCH. Awesome stuff! Proof: http://imgur.com/881bmC6

I've gotten 42 on a 10 mile trip before. However, I have a hard time maintaining above 29 on the computer. Once you get on the gas that average plummets

If I want to drive like a Jackass, I take my other car. The BRZ does just fine on fuel and with so little relative power stomping on the go pedal every so often only hurts a little.

I like to keep the revs relatively high while not necessarily driving like a jackass so I don't always have to downshift to accelerate. It makes me laugh to find out that the meter actually reads high. I cleared mine today at about 1200 miles, with a 24.x mpg average. In the short trip thereafter, I didn't come remotely close to 20 mpg ![]() -Jackass

I didnt, i assumed it would screw up the computers read out but the speedo has been dead nuts with every gps/speed sign/iphone app/other car woth me. Soooooo unless theyre all wrong then my computer compensated for the change in size? Idk.

Most speedometers read 2%-5% faster than what you're actually going (my truck is 8%) which would also explain the optimistic mpg readings, with a larger tire spinning at the same rpm as the old small tire the overall vehicle velocity will be faster with the larger diameter tire, basically covering the built in compensation with the speedo. The computer has no fucking idea what diameter your wheels are, it's just looking at the final drive speed is coming out of the transmission. Most wheel swaps aren't big enough to matter especially given most areas plus or minus 5 mph isn't a big deal. Also larger diameter wheels are basically adding gearing which lowers rpm and improves fuel economy. Not accounting for the weight gain. |

I have no clue about the whole speedo crap, i didnt even know the speed sensor was in the diff(never cared to looked for it to be honest) all i know is yime and time again ive checked my speedo versus other speed read outs and so far the most its been off was a "your speed is" sign saying i was 1mph slower then my speedo. idk im not going to try and figure it out, im just gonna continue to drive, i dont care about mpg at all i fill up when i need to fill up and thats it.
