I believe the culprit is the screw plate on the figure I , not the adapter plate on the figure F.

http://techinfo.subaru.com/proxy/734...h501sca101.pdf

On my case I couldn't get the screw to hold anymore , the thread on the screw plate is just gone .

So Subaru should replace this under the warranty right ?

Dealer just installed my mirror in my car (they didn't have the parts in stock at time I took delivery of the car) and it seems okay so far. It doesn't seem as well attached as the non-homelink mirror, but hopefully it doesn't have any issues...

I didn't feel like dealing with the dealership to try to get it replaced under warranty, so I went ahead and bought the new part (H501SSA041) online. The rattling is gone, but honestly, I wasn't able to see how this part was different from the previous one. I'm hoping that it is, but part of me expects it to become loose again in a few months.

This part is a joke and Subaru should refund everybody's money who bought one including labour to restore the stock mirror. I've made this point to Subaru Canada and I intend to make it stick. It's n OEM supplied part covered by a full warranty and it is useless.

I am having my old mirror restored.

The source of the vibration is twofold: the windshield button spring clip won't hold the adapter plate firmly AND the mirror itself won't screw tightly into the adapter plate. You can tell by twisting the two separate components individually, they can be twisted in opposite directions!

Rear view mirrors are required to "pop off" by federal safety regulations (officially they must breakaway without injuring the body part that hit them) but this part will break away if you look at it wrong!

because they must be crash tested no modification can be made without US federal approval after Subaru proves the redesign complies with the regulations. You can imagine how keen Subaru is to get that done.

This part is made for Subaru by some aftermarket maker and they are all defective.

Part # H501SSA041 fixes the issue you're having. It's like $8.

I'll ask my dealer to order it in. Thanks for the tip. Wonder why Subaru hasn't told its Canadian dealers about this yet?

Hello, July calling...

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=55

The second part isn't really correct - the mirror does screw tightly to the adaptor plate, it's the adaptor plate itself that won't tightly attach to the 'shoe' - and you've omitted the fact that the entire package is not rigidly attached to the glass.

Which part would that be? The mirror, or the mounting hardware? Why would you think they're made by the same company?

The mirror is an off-the-shelf item from whoever makes it. My daughter's Mazda 2 has the same mirror, identical except the compass display is green rather than red. Subaru just went to the maker and said, "We'll take these".

It's not the mirror maker's fault that Subaru chose a mounting method that's harmonically incompatible with the mirror itself. The Mazda uses the captive-bevel mounting for its stock mirror, so no adaptor is requred and the mirror bolts on fine - rock-solid.

I don't do DYI on a car under warranty.

I actually don't give a r@ts a$$ why it doesn't work, it doesn't.

JB weld doesn't meet US federal regulations I'm sure.

I am more familiar with high priced Euro machinery which has its idiosyncratic problems but not with optional extras, per se.

I will order the fix it part identified by a helpful poster. I am not gluing my mirror onto the adaptor.
