IMO those VW keys are awesome looking...until you loose it. Laser cut keys are ridiculously expensive to replace.

IMO getting the key out of the pocket, pressing the button and hearing the doors unlock, sticking it into the ignition and turning the key makes me feel like a bauss :P

Besides, you wouldn't want someone to do to your car what Jeremy Clarkson did to Richard Hammond's car in the USA episode

I am the only person in my family who has a key that pokes me. My mom's BMW has keyless, Dad's Porsche has a flip, and sister's Mazda 3 has a flip, and I love every time I flip it before getting to the car

Yep they do. A rental we had, Mazda cx7 had it. I actually like that, but seems like it could break.

I don't like key, it will hole your pockets. On my Alfa I have a very cool looking flip key, it is very practicle. I hope in EU we get this version of the Toyta key.

Ok, for the toyobaru how the key looks is not important, for but any other car it is. Just go to a pub an put the iPhone and a good looking key with a good badge (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche) on the table and see what happens. You'll get all the girls.

make your own flip key

Since the forum is full of mod-savvy folk, I figured you guys wouldn't mind making your own flip key, for those interested. Ebay's full of em. http://www.ebay.com/itm/07-09-TOYOTA...item1e67f2be22

You basically just get the key part cut, move the transponder chip and remote controls into the new remote.

On a side note, isn't there a big problem with installing remote starts in cars w/push start? As in when you remote start the car, and try to get in, it shuts it off? Just wondering since living in Canada, a remote start is often a necessity, not an option.

Euro and jap cars dont work like that. My moms car the key has to be in the front seat. The car wont even turn on if the keys in the passanger seat or back seats.

My (European) Auris can be started with the keys in the passenger's seat, and afaik also on the back seats; but it must be inside. I guess it depends on the car/maker.

Steps to open car door in heavy rain situation:
1. find the key before stepping into the rain.
2. push the "open" button on the remote as you approach the car.
3. oh look, you dont even have to find the little button on the dam door

I dont see how that is a problem? The remote start just runs the engine but shuts off if you press on the break so that no one can just drive the car away. It's so you can get into an already warmed up car or cooled down car.

Also this "problem" has nothing to do with pushbutton ignitions, as someone said eariler both push button and turn key are electrical now a days so it makes no real difference what you have. It works that way with turn key ignitions too. It's the design of the remote start system. If you know of one that doesn't shut off then it should also not shut off with the push start.

That said I want a push button start with proximity key. It's way more convenient.

I have an "old fashion" regular key. And i drive new cars for my dad's dealership(its a GM dealer). For my own keys i just keep them hooked on an carabiner clip on the side of my jeans to keep them out of my way and just right there when i need them. But when i drive the new cars some have that Vw style flip key and i dig them and it is convenient it makes getting in and out quick and easy. I prefer a good old fashion key, but if the Frs came with a modern key like i've been seeing with most newer cars i wouldn't mind it.
