Regarding luggage ? Yeah you can't fit huge bags in it but can make trips and drives with some if you want to.
I carry food, and shit load of random things around in it and never worry.
Here's an example of the front compartment and I was cleaning the fabric as some sticky sugar syrup spilled from dessert
Spilled from dessert in the desert? ^_^

And here I was thinking that dailying a Ferrari would be living hell. I was going to be nice and offer to swapp cars.

Having never driven a RX-8, I take back my comment that it doesn't even compare to the FT86; given the testimonials in this thread. With that said I tried to educate myself about the RX-8, on Wikipedia, when I saw the below...
RX-8 Successor
"The next generation rotary engine, dubbed 16x, is currently under development.[15] Rumors suggest that the RX-8 may be replaced by a new smaller, lighter, simpler sports car set to compete with the likes of the Toyota 86. Mazda’s new 16x rotary engine is rumored to be at the heart of the RX-8 successor. Rumors suggest the RX-8 successor will include the introduction of direct injection technology, as well as aluminum side housings with 1600 cc capacity instead of 1308 cc capacity. Rumors also suggest that the new engine dimensions of the 16x will have increased stroke and reduced rotor width for improved thermal efficiency and more torque. Japanese reports and Autocar both claim that the next generation RX-8 will have around 290 horsepower. They also claim the car should weigh in at around 2,700 lb (1,200 kg), making it a true light-weight sports car."

^if that car actually came to fruition it wouldn't be called an RX8 (unless it had those funky half doors again). It would be an RX7. But don't get all excited, b/c that's just something posted on Wikipedia.

Don't worry the maintenance bills are still living hell I'm sure.

I thought their review was OK. The thing I thought funny about it, is their name is "Everyday Driver", yet they seemed to place more emphasis on power than anything else in that video...

I think the 2 more seats, coupe style, and more room in the FRS would set it above the s2k in that regard at least (every day driving). That's why I honestly got one over an s2k. That and you can't find an s2k that hasn't been molested or decent mileage.

And compared to the rx8, your points are spot on as well. I think they sort of missed the point of the frs vs. the others in that video. You can always give a car more power.

You just need to know where to look. Though in SoCal you may be SOL. Also what's your definition of "decent" mileage? When I sold my S2000 it was near flawless, and had 60k on it. Since it's a Honda I'd consider anything under 100k (well maintained of course) decent milage.

If this is actually true:

We shall see. But if they can achieve what the article claims, this could be an awesome engine.

The 13B used in Series II RX-8's was already an awesome engine.

If they truly make a 9k plus revving rotary with 290 hp NA in a 2,700 lb car....look out....game changer.

You know it will have an amazing chassis and 50:50 weight distribution with RWD.

I would actually like to see it come back as a 2+2. The suicide doors made the back seats much more practical than the BRZ's.
I do love how my BRZ seats can fold down tho for cargo space. I kinda wish they were split folding to keep a car seat in place on one side.

From the Autoblog source, here are Mazda's goals with the 16x rotary:

Quote:
First is to lower fuel consumption compared to the RX-8's engine, while still making gains in terms of performance. The second is to reduce the burning of oil that was happening at the highest revs. And the third and final priority, and perhaps most key for enthusiasts, is to give the powertrain a big torque upgrade.
Better fuel economy, less oil burning, and a big torque upgrade? I would be sold. Mazda usually nails the handling/steering, and makes excellent manual transmissions. If they get the engine right, my only other big concern would be styling. The RX-8, for me, missed the mark. They just tried too hard.

But the styling on the Mazda 6 and 3 is improved, so hopefully that would translate over...

Yea I consider anything under 100k to be "just broken in" for a honda, but when I purchased my FR-S I wanted a DD with absolutely no worries so a warrantied brand new car sounded very appealing.

The main concern I have is all the s2k around here are extremely "riced up". My friend recently traded in his Cobalt SS for an s2k and the car looked ridiculous. Huge body kit, painted rims, the works.

Nothing against the s2k at all, its a wonderful car. I just like my cars unmolested and more "stock" looking

I agree. The stock s2000's are much easier on the eyes then all these mega riced kits you see on them.

There are tons of unmolested S2ks in SoCal if you look for them. They just command a premium.

Then again, my s2k came molested/riced from the factory.

I wouldn't want to drive my Cayman in the snow any more than I'd want to drive a GT3 or a Ferrari. The ride isn't a whole lot softer either (though I do have a bit more ground clearance, which is nice for speed bumps, curbs, etc). As for luggage? 911s carry a lot more than you might think - the GT3 has a fair amount of room in front, and the spot where the rear seats would be (in any other 911) is pretty large too. I can't comment on the Ferrari though.

Why would you think that? I would expect the Cayman's slightly rear-heavy, mid engine layout to be a better overall platform for handling than the front-heavy, front-engine BRZ, even with equal tires.
