Is this based on the African "TSB?" Reason I ask is different regions will have different "tunes" so to speak for different emission requirements. If it is true that the software has been modified, there is no reason why anyone who has bough their car or brought their car into service after that date shouldn't have this update already loaded, correct? Honest question. If it truly is a software problem, the "fix" would be an update

So are you all saying that my car (March 2013 build date) isn't at risk for the DI problems because I have the proper calibration on my ECU?? Also is there any way I can check this to prove it??

Sorry for dumb questions if so.

track junkie in this thread confirmed his BRZ that had a build date of Feb/13 had the updated calibration file. His car is in the States.

I think where it gets confusing is that there does not seem to be a TSB or Bulltetin (at least for Subaru) where it points to this issue that you can refer to when you work with your dealer. We just have the ZA1JA01C calibration file with this description:
Known Changes/Fixes: 1. Changes to transient spark control to resolve failing (direct) fuel injector seals caused by excessive detonation when changing gear at high engine speed (above 5200rpm).

I am not sure if that is enough information for a US service department to update your ECU without pointing to a US bulletin or TSB.

You should be good. But you could verify with the dealer next time you are in, they can tell you what version you have installed.

My stealership didn't even know what kind of coolant went in my car. They also literally said "we dont just have extra coolant lying around", to which I responded "must make running a service department a challenge". I just wanted them to top me off lol.

Any way to check it myself?

Good to know! Thank you! I stopped following this thread when it got crazy off topic, lol. Guess it got back on at one point.

I have a service appt tomorrow morning with a Scion dealership where I will be asking for ZA1JA01C. I will post up if I get it or not.

I suspect you would need something like Ecutek or BRZedit.

Maybe find a different dealer that might know what they are doing?

Sounds like I will have fun trying to sort this out with my dealer... I picked up my car in July but I have a Nov 2012 build date.

Ask the dealer to please update the ecu calibration/software file and provide a printout for confirmation.

Post if they tell you or not I'm hoping to have a dealer appointment for a few warranty issues soon and want to ask for them to tell me what I'm running in the ECU since I have a first shipment BRZ.

Okay, here's what I have so far. The update exists, but my car does not fall into the vin range, so they won't do it.

I asked her to
1. Get me the vin range info (see if it's different than the South African range)
2. Find out of the car already HAS the update on it
3. If it does not, how much will it cost to have the update loaded. She said she CAN upload it of it is not on the car, but since there is no TSB for it, I would be charged.
