What? Displacement would be better for PD. If you want to rev, get a turbo.
________

Displacement; easier to take care of revs on my own if need be than reconstruct a block that has no material to machine.

Personally I think it's a false choice. They are talking 254bhp from a 2.5L, that's better than 197 from 2.0. 2.5 might possibly even rev a little higher than the 2.0 w/ those figures. Honestly, it's going to be in the ballpark to not really matter much unless you're at Talledega.

Yes there is. It's called engineering.

It's actually more dependent on the cylinder head and camshaft design...

I had a decade old 2.4 liter Honda engine with an RSX type s head that revved up to 8,100rpm. So obviously I choose wisely a 2.5 with more torque(That can be lego into an FA20 head or other better future aftermarket head for higher RPM).

Winner winner chicken dinner

No, not really. Whatever you do to a smaller engine to make it meet or exceed the larger one can also be done to the larger one taking the advantage back. More volume means more power potential due to more room for more air/fuel. FI's original intent was compensation for less volume but can be applied to anything including a 8.0L V10. Imagine the numbers you get w/ 30psi on that versus a 1.6L.
________

3.0L V10's in F1 reved to 18,000 RPM. The new Porsche 3.8L Turbo H-6 goes to 7200 RPM. What's the big scare about a 2.5L? Just sayin'.

I'm sure 2.5L with high rev is possible. If tuners from the Honda scene manage to create a frankenstein motor that is 2.4L and also make it high rev at the same time w/ oem parts, I'm sure toyobaru can do it too.

Whatever Subaru releases, it's highly likely it will stay 2.0 liters for business reasons. I would be surprised if they increased displacement. Anything over 2.0 liters gets pushed into a higher tax bracket in a lot of countries. That's why the JDM WRX STi was a 2 liter. They would have to release a 2.5 for the American market only. They've been doing that for years with the STi, so it's certainly possible, but I'd be surprised if they did it.

If it's turbo, it will probably fall on its face at 5000rpm and hit rev limit at 6000ish, just like almost every other modern turbo DI engine.

Nope, but if all you want is moar power then having a 2door, light weight , rwd car doesnt matter.

Because 250hp is too much for a rwd platform to control?

(Its not)

A high revving 2.5l 4cyl would require a new engine. The Subaru FB25 has a stroke of 94mm. That is not a good start for a high revving 4cyl. Now a 2.5l 6cyl could have a nice short stroke and could be designed with a better rod:stroke ratio. I wonder how hard it would be to de-stroke the EZ30 bump the comp to 12.5:1 and add D4S injection...
