Two things clued me in to something was wrong. There was a vibration that was resonating throughout the car when I started her. I thought it was the metal engine pan, but it was definitely the pipe coming off the cracked weld on the collector.

The other was that my wideband AFR gauge was telling me I was lean. Logically to me this means my primary O2 was reading the same and making the car run rich. Not the worst problem to have, but my fuel trims are probably jacked and I shouldn't push the car while I have this header.

It is a bit disappointing to see a part fail, but I am confident Borla will warranty this piece. For this car I am an early adopter of most everything and this part is no different; I got one of the first ones. Hopefully their QC is better in the subsequent batches.

I opted not to get this fixed because the other welds may break in a similar fashion. In addition, I can't be sure the replacement won't suffer the same fate. Things are coming up in my life and I can't be constantly be pulling headers for warranty. Need my car to work like a champ. Therefore I opted to purchase a different header from another manufacturer as Chris mentioned.

Must pay to play. It is what it is.
Although I'm sorry you had issues with yours, it makes ME personally feel a little better that this was one of the first batch headers, not a newer one.

Sorry to hear. As you may know I went through 3 warranty replacements with Borla and thankfully I caught the defects before installing any of them, but I had to give up and get my refund as Borla was not capable of delivering a defect-free product.

That's probably your best course of action. Which other manufacturer did you choose?

I'm so glad I just spend an extra $200 and got another [better] header from the start.

We have one of the very first ones on our Silver FRS. 15+ Track days, over 15,000 miles and now a supercharger with one track day on it as well and zero issues. You will see failures but as always Borla stands behind their product.

That's fair. I might have got unlucky. I get to see their support in action soon though. I still appreciate you guys working to get me one of the first.

It's worth considering that Borla has very likely sold 10 times more headers for the 86 than all other headers combined. I don't mean to knock RevWorks but the one header on this forum that cracked may very well make their failure rate higher than Borla's.

Oh... Another local needed assistance last week.

The runners were making contact before the collector. Making a pretty bad noise. Borla will be replacing that one as well.

I doubt that 100x number. If you go from the P&L group buy alone that's 2500 headers.

Then you add in the non group buy headers, Fa20club, Revworks, JDL, HKS... You're claiming numbers close to 100% replacement of the OEM header by borla alone.

My biggest concern going with something other then borla... What do you do on day 366 and something happens.. At least with borla I know I'll get it fixed.. I know a guy that has a supercharger, tracks it heavily and still no issues with his borla headers.. I also know a guy that had a set of the first borla UEL and the flex connector had a issue, a rattle, but they swapped it no questions asked.. In fact sent the new ones so he wouldn't have his car down.. I'm still on the fence but the warranty is what keeps me going back to borla

I should proof read my posts before submitting them. I meant to type "10 times" which should be conservative.

My header still looks brand new and I have had no issues at all with Borla as a company. In fact, they were an absolute pleasure to deal with when I swapped out my original header. For all of the critics I'd love to take you for a ride.

Borla Boxer Rattle?

Initiated warranty process. Waiting for them to reply to my email. I'll sitrep everybody as I make progress.

Here is the rattling I spoke of when I start my car. I'm 99.999% sure its the header doing this. If any of you hear this, then please check it out before it gets worse.
