Spal has some good fans that flow well for there size. I have not touched a full blown set up so I do not know the measurements. But I would recommend to do some measurements, and see if they have anything to fit the bill. I would also look at some adhesive backed silver heat shielding (higher temp rating then gold) for the fan motor and such. I am assuming you have everything you can exhaust wrapped and coated? Have you looked into hood spacers for letting heat out the bay. They may not be super attractive with the body lines but definitely work for letting heat out the bay. Also if you do the hood spacers pull the weather strip from the hood wiper caw (spelling) area and put clips in the caw (spelling). Also have you done anything ducting wise to make sure air has a dedicated path so it has to blow through the intercooler, condenser, radiator and not around it? Just some ideas, I have not had to deal with heat that high but have had issues with hotter running cars with temps around 100f ambient and some of these have helped.

check this out,
I guess its the best solution,

http://www.tunersgroup.com/Products/...ler_spray.html

this system better to have on/off switch, to turn on the traffic or while stopping. it should be cheap and it doesn't need much work to do, water pump, wires, switch, and water injector or what ever can spray the water, water tank.

yeah, i didn't have to but rev works did. precisely for this reason: smaller aftermarket fans didn't move enough air, unless you keep one full-size one in there.

On our track built evo we relocated the small window sprayer nozzles from the hood to the front of the grill. A fairly cheap but effective mod. I think it should work on the 86 too

I feel that some upgraded SPAL fans and a thin radiator shroud would be the best solution. Just a thin radiator shroud for the included fans might help as well. I know that my downpipe isn't close to touching my fans, so I am thinking about upgrading both, just haven't gotten around to checking sizes yet.

He is not using a big single fan, he is retaining one stock fan and another slim fan

it still has two fans, only one is aftermarket. the other is the larger stock fan. i've had no issues with this setup, in 100+ heat.

we run 2 10" flexalite slim line fans on our shop vw builds. 2.8L, 10.5:1 compression turbo builds (450+HP). we have been doing really well with those for the last few years. even with AC. zero fan failures as well with flexalite.

@Djen
Today I tried my car for the first time with FBM rad, oil cooler and slim fans. as well as the turbo blanket. That set up worked much better than the factory rad with the slim fans. I can tell you its about 30% more effective. still am facing some heat according to the gauge but AC working fine. now the heat goes down very quickly unlike before.
