Thinking too much about it. Generally those conditions bring the worst out of poor drivers. Sure, you have a point yet good tires mean a lot. Now, let's get back on topic.

It was apparent there are many terrible drivers on the road.
What does bad drivers have to do with the drivetrain??

I've driven RWD cars for the past 7 years varying from 200 hp to 414 hp, and half the year it's raining over here... and in my experience (I've driven Avalons, Sentras, and rogues) FWD are far more susceptible to hydroplaning than RWD cars.

Because the rear-end is light dude. All the weight is over your wheels in FWD providing much better traction. Have you ever driven in snow with RWD? You better not say RWD does better in than FWD either. Then there is no hope.

I've never seen snow... but at the same time you can't say just because RWD suck in snow it's also bad in rain... I've spun out FWD cars in the rain, and have had a lot of ass clenching situations, I have yet to lose control on a RWD unless I deliberately do it by smashing the gas mid corner to have the rear end break loose....

I like driving in winter behind people in luxury cars like Lexus Bmw and the like. They are spinning them tires driving sideways on a straight rode wrestling that wheel white knuckled. I'm in a accord with snow tires just dawdling behind them waiting for them to get out of the way. While there is another car in the family to drive in snow I'm gonna keep my BRZ out of it but one day I'll get it some snow tires.

Traditionally the average driver is much safer in a FWD in wet/snowy conditions. You must be Vin Diesel whipping your RWDs around hair pin turns and intersections during in the midst of a down pour. My point was that the majority of people do better in FWD platforms during wet conditions because the dynamics of the car. I have no problems driving my FRS in the rain. Why should I? I can keep it in the garage out of the weather where I want it. The other point I was not clear on was the fact of visibility during rain/storms. That's where more accidents will occur as well.

The fact that you have not lost control in your RWD yet not in FWD means you were being cautious and is situation unique to you. It's easy to downshift, brake too hard, or hydroplane in any platform causing loss of control. I have had it happen in both and much prefer the predictably of my FWD during cornering and downshifting. If you are such a bad ass driver, then drive around in your FRS with all electronic stability control options off. That is what separates the men from the boys. I assure I am no boy when it comes to driving buddy. The fact that you have not driven in the snow/ice just means you are less versatile of a driver. And yes, us KY boys have done some off-roading too, yeee haaawww! Truth hurts buddy. Jab back partner. Love how some people on here will take a vague statement and pull all kinds of meaning from it. I appreciate this stimulating conversation but I will not counter your responses any further. Back to topic

I bet that car was not tuned for those conditions at all Keep going if you want. Specifics aside. Generalities is what I am speaking of and that is just the case. Case closed.

What makes you think I drive with Traction control on? I disable TC everytime, I drive my E39 which has a faulty ABS sensor through the rain just fine, BTW if you don't know what happens when the ABS module malfunctions, it means I have no ABS or traction control. So you can keep living in lala land where FWD is better than RWD...

Edit: lol... FWD predictable... that's a laugh... the moment the rear tires on a FWD lose grip, bye bye...

You do know 911s have the engine in the back and on top of the rear axles, right? xD That more or less proves his point on FWD being superior to RWD in the snow because of the added weight on the wheels to provide traction.

The 911 is possible the only RWD car capable of snow racing.

Back on topic: I would say people simply couldn't afford the car. You ask anyone on this forum and they would say "BUYTHECARRIGHTNAO", this kind of mentality is sure to produce a lot of hot-headed and ill conceived impulse buys.

That's because the average driver sucks.

I'll take RWD over FWD regardless of road conditions. I've owned/driven four RWD cars through many winters in hilly western MA (and I've driven literally dozens of RWD work vehicles in snow/rain). I find RWD to be not just more fun than FWD, but also more predictable and controllable. It's important to understand vehicle dynamics, use proper tires, and not overdrive conditions (regardless of drivetrain).

To be clear, I'm not basing FWD cars as I've enjoyed driving many of them (GTI, Civic Si, MCS, S-works, MS3, GSR, CRX, tC, Abarth, Focus ST, etc). But they were fun despite being FWD, not because of it.

In my state, insuring and registering both a tC and FRS costs more than just insuring and registering one of them. I'm assuming it's also extra cost for you (though it may not be that significant).

My point was that even if one drives very little miles on cars like the FRS and tC, in most situations they still depreciate from age (so, it costs more to own both of them rather than just one).

My comments/questions aren't meant as criticisms/judgements. You're a car guy, and you're willing to put up with the extra cost because you love your tC. There's nothing wrong with that... I really was just curious by your comment about looking at your FRS as a way to keep mileage down on your tC, and your tC as a way to keep mileage down on your FRS.

You explained it, so :happy0180:

Of course two cars cost more to insure than one car.

I sold mine because it was too awesome. I put 21k miles on it in one year. That's roughly $3,000 in gas per year. I wanted to keep the car about 8 years. Then I realized I didn't want to spend $24,000 in gas.

So . . . . I traded it in, got a $19,600 discount on a Chevy Volt (including 3,300 off due to my GM Mastercard earnings) and wrote a 3,500 check for the difference, all of which was for tax. So essentially I traded for free.

The FR-S still feels and looks like no other car for 25k. But aside from long road trips I haven't stopped at a gas station since June 22nd.
