Time to get serious: 17x9.5 (or 10") w/ 275 (or 285)
Now that my car is officially classed as Street Mod in Solo (thanks to the new hairdryer), it's time to go really big.
Car has coilovers w/ 2.25".springs and -2.5 & -2 camber F/R, I'm running 255s on 17x9s with no issues, but wonder what I'll need to do. I'd imagine some fender rolling @ a minimum. Ultimately, 17x10s on 285/35s is the ideal goal. I know Phil w/ Element has gone there, but I wanted to start a thread for future searches as all of us continue to develop this car.

I have nothing solid to contribute except to point to the Meaty Tire Thread. A lot of people are getting 265s to fit without a whole lot of issues. So that may give you a starting reference.
285s will be tough however. I think you may have to get flares and do some trimming. |

There is only one tire to run in SM, and that's the A6 and the only sizes I would look at running are the 275/35/17 and 285/30/18, which are about the same overall height.
I think you can get away with running the 275/35 on a 17x9.5 without any problems. Finding a non-custom 5x100 wheel in larger than 17x9.5 or 18x9.5 at the right offset is going to be difficult. Rota makes some, I think that's what Phil@Element is running. Plenty of guys are running wheels that size, but not with tires that wide, just going to take measuring and fitting them and see what needs to be pulled/hacked/etc.

My bad, Phil... I knew better that there's no 285/35 A6 lol
The Rota rims are too weighty. Not sure if the 17x9.5 RPF1 +38s will clear the AP Sprint brake kit I have w/o spacers--but the lbs are right. Those'll probably be the easiest off-the-shelf solution w/ the 275/35s--for now... |

I already run 17x9s in +35 (Weds) w/ 255s that clear my brakes.
Need bigger! I think I'm going to start w/ 18x9.5s & 275/35s, since I can get good, used A6s more readily in 18s. Either the RPF1 (+38), or NT03+ (+40) w/ small spacers for front. Need to find some used & cheap! lol |
