So I used a fuel treatment, STX if I remember right, after filling up with AAFES 93oct. after about an hour or so the chirping has all but gone away. you can still hear them but it is truly negligible and i didn't even hear them today and i put the treatment in last week sometime. just thought I'd share...

Finally have my 1st trace of crickets this after noon for 1 min at a stop light but was gone and totally disappear for the rest of the day.
Have Toyota and subaru figure out what is actually causing it yet?
What kind of damage might it cause if not fixed? besides annoy the heck out of you

Most of us are just living with it. It hasn't caused any problems for me as of yet, nor have I really heard of any issues from others. Basically just a sound issue currently

I took mine in the other day to Toyota and was told there is a tech bulletin about to be released on the issue. I know my dealership extremely well as they sponsor me for a track car I own so I believe them that there is a fix coming. They said any day now. They are ordering the "parts that will be needed but the car is safe to drive according to corporate" soon to fix my crickets. I am trying to avoid driving the car however as I can only assume that part of the sound we here is the engine running lean and the injector cannot get the fuel it needs. Therefore I would like to avoid driving it. But hey, Toyota might be correct. I just don't want the long term damage that might result.

My old BMW 135i had HPFP problems and recalls. No noise, but they did go bad and BMW has increased the warranty on them to 100K miles.

In reading up about that issue, I read that someone recommended adding a cap full of synthetic 2 stroke oil to every tank full. This was supposed to help the HPFP.

I wonder if adding a cap full of synthetic 2-sroke oil per tankof gas would help with the chirping crickets on our cars?

It certainly won't hurt anything.

Man, and I thought I was paranoid about door dings and keeping my car clean. This takes the prize. The pump is fine. Read the thousand posts in the other thread. It is just an annoyance.

It would hurt your octane rating, wouldn't it? Wouldn't cause any issues I don't think, but will slow you down if so.

+1. Mine chirps like crazy but it's no worse than any aftermarket HPFP I've had in other cars. If a true fix hits the system then I'll consider scheduling it, otherwise it's about the last thing on my mind.

My BRZ is at the dealer as we speak to have a few things taken care of, one of which is the return of the DI chirp. Apparently the first iteration of the redesigned fuel pump wasn't sufficient (as my car can attest...was fixed for a while but not forever), and there is now 2nd iteration of the fuel pump. Supposedly they are on national back order, but my dealer pushed/begged/pleaded and is supposed to be getting on Monday. Fingers crossed that this fixed it for good.

Sounds like something the dealer would just say to shut a customer up. But as with everyone, I hope its true.
