I always wonder if putting euro/japanese graded 98 eliminates the problem or not. Since they don't even seem to reganize it... O__o blame the additives in our fuel?

With that kind of logic we'd still be using carburetors. Technology moves forward, it'd be shortsighted to not use this as a development for DI. This isn't a money making vehicle, it's an advertising/development platform, at least from a business prospective.

Win on Sunday, sell on Monday.

They rate their octanes differently than we do, 98 RON (Euro/Jap) is equivalent to 93 AKI (NA). Some blame additives (ethanol) but that isn't proven, plenty of people get chirps with non-ethanol fuel, plenty are silent with E10 91 octane (like mine after 10k miles).

I think it will most definitely come when the 2014 model is released and they actually notice it and decide to fix it instead of tell all the dealers to rub it off and call it "normal"
This^^ bad attitude is the same attitude ignorant consumers give to the software industry.

The fact is you can't just release a "fix" without knowing what elses has been changed by the "fix". You can't just throw out a change in a part without lots of testing.

Fast fixes are never the answer when it comes to development.

So true, and that is why I prefer to fix it myself and come up with my own solution, which I have. I'm running quiet as a church mouse!

Ethanol free gas is the only actual solution for now. Though it is costly :/

A few things:

- Engine is 2.0 liter for a reason: to be in the 2.0L and under tax bracket for Japanese domestic market.
- Direct injection was requested by Toyota to meet the fuel consumption and power goals. If you watch the FT-86 video, one of the reasons for this was to achieve a certain carbon consumption per liter target, something that is mandated by virtually every governing body in the world now. Some call it mileage, some call it efficiency, it's all the same goal.
- "More easy to tune" might be correct, however from a purely efficiency perspective, direct injection is the next thing in automotive advancement and there's no going back if you want a high efficiency high output engine of a given size.

Crickets

Toyota is odd at times with issues - did they ever find the issue with the ghost acceleration problems with several models, if I recall, they thought it was floor matts, so they modified the mat clip on my 4Runner - go figure.

You'd have never got away with a 12.5:1 CR without DI.

For this reason, I'm going to wait for another couple months before talking to the dealership about the issue.. Despite the fact that I have the loudest, most annoying crickets in the world.. drives me nuts!
That's not how it works.. They make running changes as soon as they can. That's why TSBs are by VIN number. They want to fix it ASAP to avoid extra costs and bad press.. They don't wait for a new year to fix problems..

Mine was replaced on May 23rd as well and it's still chirp free. The pulsating noise is gone since then also.
