So Turtle Jacks at 7, when does everyone, or those who are participating, want to meet at royal distributing for helmets? 6:30?

Any other KW folks want to meet somewhere and cruise up to Guelph as a group?

Seems to be a decent sized group this time, do they get busy enough to warrant reservations?

I can be there for 6:30 to check out helmets. Won't be off work until 6:15 so no earlier for me, alas, so won't be able to cruise up. Matt might cruise up with you though.

Please, please, please, somebody talk me out of buying a Bell M4. There is nothing wrong with my M2010 helmet. We've bonded, we both like the same books and movies. Our relationship was going so well. So it's not SA2010, as I had thought. That doesn't mean I can't use it right? Right? Argh!! I have helmet anxiety.

^ Haha, I owe you a pint of Rickards after this.

Keep the M, spend that $$ for the Bell on driver training. Driver training will go a long way especially if you're still green to this stuff. After a few years when you gain more speed and confidence, you'll figure out how serious you want to continue in it and then you'll start to thinking about upgrading your safety gear (SA helmet, roll bar, fixed-back seat, harness, HANS). For now, just get seat time. You may find out that you don't like this sport ... but I highly doubt that.

I'll just head to Guelph Scion after work. Sportsworld is way out of the way. My route is out through the country north of Waterloo, right into Guelph at Elmira Rd/Woodlawn.

Just dropped my car off at Subaru to get my crickets fixed, and window seals replaced... and they have two WRB's right on the lot now. Doh, even less unique now...

That's the common sense I needed to hear. Thanks.

Yeah, still pretty green. I've been to 5 track days at Mosport now. 4 on the DDT, on once on the GP track. Been driving ummm..."spiritedly", for 25 years. But I'm sure I'm at the peak of my self-taught ability. An instructor in the passenger seat would be a huge help. There are likely 50 things I'm doing wrong and I don't even know it.

LOVE the sport, it's more about time while still seeing my family. My three year old isn't quite ready to join me (well... he probably is, but my wife would be bored to death at the track).

Hey are you coming out tonight? I wouldn't mind picking your brain a little.

Thanks again.

Instruction/coaching goes a long way and it's good to see that you guys are more than open to taking that route. I've run across a lot of people that think they know what they're doing but I would never want to be on the track with them - driving on the streets is bad enough. That's essentially why I avoid most (if not all) of the lapping days in this area and only go with groups where I personally know the organizers or know them through close friends.

Unfortunately I won't be there tonight but if there's a meeting next week perhaps, I'll be around and hopefully will have my car here (car pooling).

I was going to make a joke about using my baseball helmet for this. Then I figured the momentum of 7oz baseballs at 70mph is probably very insignificant compared to 2750lb cars at 100mph. Turns out that this hypothetical car has almost 10,000 times as much momentum as the hypothetical baseball. No joke.

(6.21 kg m/s compared to 55 763 kg m/s.)
