Why are people selling their cars?

FR-S was sold inexpensively so it appealed to people that bought it for its looks not realizing that stiff rides and cramped interiors are part of the deal for sporty cars. If it came in manual only like the Civic Si it would've weeded out a lot of people that shouldn't have bought one in the first place as this is a car for car aficionados. Scion should have offered more options at inception (sticking to Scion's monospec core). if it weren't for the Series 10 I would've bought a white BRZ and changed the front bumper. I lost out on the choice of color and heated seats but instead I got something I don't have to spend time and extra money on and all the other features that should have been available to begin with.
The DI chirping (to me doesn't seem like a big deal) but over time will it affect reliability? Every car has its quirks and chirping is no worse than a Civic Si's notchy 3rd gear synchros, crap mileage on a RX7 or fried turbos on a Z. Not to say Toyota should ignore it as it could affect their bottom line (especially with forums like this and youtube). I wonder if the 86s will come in their own in the future or be the poor man's Supra (if it does comes back)?

After reading this thread, I perused the classified section. Many sellers explained why... the most recent posts:

"potential cuts at work are making me shrink my expenses"
"my job has me traveling around"
"I plan on going back to school"
"I want a BRZ limited instead"
"I am getting the urge to build an RWB 964"
"I'm short as heck on money"

Interesting... the more common rationale for two cars is that one is a beater/daily-driver/utility/high-mileage car and the other a fun/show/track-toy/weekend-cruiser/garage-queen/low-mileage car.

Out of curiosity (since both the tC and FRS are cheap 2+2s meant to be driven), why deal with the cost/hassle of owning both in order to keep the mileage down on both?

Have you seen pics of the block? I don't think they can go up to 2.5L and maintain a square bore x stroke, they'll have to do a new block methinks, or just stroke it which would end up lowering the redline a bit.



IF they made a new block the design would be very similar (an evolution) but still not an FA20 as we currently know it.

Edit, I misread, you didn't mention a 2.5L, I could see a 2.2L stroker happening or less with just revised heads and such but this still serves for the couple people speculating on a 2.5L FA20 evolution based off the same block.

Looking at the block I can see that it wouldn't be able to be made to a 2.5, but I was thinking maybe 2.3 or 2.2. Following with the 100 hp per liter high compression idea, 220 or 230 hp would be great. But a completely new engine with 2.5 liters would be good too. One thing is for sure the 86mm bore and stroke will be a gonner.

Did I say they were a cost or hassle? Nope. If it's a hassle then one should not own 2 cars. I like taking care of both of them. They are both great cars. What cost are you talking about? My tC is paid for and has been bullet proof. Would you sale a car you had for 8+ years that is in great condition and has been good to you? There is nostalgia in keeping cars around buddy. The essence of being a car guy. Plus, if you haven't heard...RWD does not do too well in rain/snow. That's where the FRS stays garaged in those situations. I admire and enjoy both cars equally thus the "common rationale" is not MY rationale. I have invested much time, money, and my hands into the tC and it would smoke my FRS plus any other FRS with a E/I/T. Hope that clears your curiosity.

C'mon...really? Insurance is nothing on the tC. And registration is what it is. Your BRZ depreciated a lot as soon as you drove it off the lot. Insurance/registration are valid points if you are a college student though.

I like driving my BRZ in the rain and snow (with proper tires).
Keyword is LIKE. I'd rather not take any chances when my FWD does just fine. To each his own.

I am happy with my car. And even if they upgrade the engine, it is going to cost more than upgrading the one I have now. My car will have 50,000-60,000 miles by 2015. Market value will be under $20,000. The 2015 with more power will cost over $30,000. At least a $10,000 difference. Which if I am not mistaken is enough for a turbo kit, exhaust, tune, wheels tires, and small brake upgrade.

The performance of your brakes is independent of the drive type (FWD/RWD/AWD). Unless you plan on avoiding bad drivers by going faster than them...
