You guys using the fumoto valve, one with nipple, short nipple or no nipple? Wondering what clearance there is and how much these actually protrude? Thanks

Short nipple is tucked within the aluminum under panel. The long nipple protrudes past it.

If I didn't already use an oil extractor to do my changes I would go with the fumoto valve

I have an oil extractor from a previous car. How much oil are you getting out? I would love to continue to use the extraction method.

Whatever you do, stick to the short nipple.

All of it. Cracked the drain plug after I used it the first time and only a few drops came out.

I have a DIY thread on it, I remove the oil dipstick tube as it only takes a minute and then I can use the largest hose size for speed

Getting a fumoto valve for my parents car for sure though, no way to easily use the oil extractor on their corolla

Excellent, then I'll continue using the extractor method.

Actually, its the Canadian government insisting on you using a customs broker to collect their lousy GST or HST. You don't even know that you hire a customs broker but you do.

Your shipper could just mail it to you and it likely would get through without these surcharges, or get a friend in the US to buy it and mail it to you as a tax exempt "gift". You can "give" him some money if you like. Maybe the two gifts will match in value.

That's what I use. There really is no DIY necessary. Drive a bit to warm the oil, remove your dipstick, stick the extractor hose in the dipstick tube and start pumping (now would be a good time to unscrew your oil filter and let drain). The oil from the oil pan will be sucked into the container. Pump more when the flow slows. Keep extracting until you hear gurgling. Pump some more until you're sure no oil is left. Replace your filter, remove the extractor, replace your dipstick, fill oil, check level and you're done.

Edit: I'm slow, the DIY was posted in the response before mine. That thread is good to check if your extractor has a larger tube than your dipstick tube can handle.

I currently have Greddy Magnetic plug. no problem at all.
It really depends on person's preference. I personally like to unbolt and drain the oil.
cant trust myself that safety mechanism might break or something even thought it won't.

who knows, i might switch to Fumoto later to try out.

The Pela product looks interesting especially for folks like myself who like to do things at home and dont have a lift etc.. I do wonder however is it getting "all" the oil out and how about small particles of metal and so fourth?
