help me decide: Fumoto Valve or Greddy MagDrain
 

Please help me decide. They each have their advantages and disadvantages over the other one. I like the convenience of the Fumoto Valve, but i also like the magnetic function of the MagDrain. What do you guys think i should get?

Fumoto. It's nice being able to do quick oil changes with a flat drain container. If you change your oil often, then the magdrain would seem less advantageous. The only bad thing would be impact to the environment.

IMO, unless you habitually overfill your oil, the fumoto doesn't really make anything much easier seeing as you need to get your car on ramps (or eq.) anyways. Fumoto valve saves...15 seconds per oil change?

I've become accustom to adding 5.2 quarts of oil so I'm not worried about overfill since I know that's the exact amount necessary based on how much oil stays in the engine after dumping.

Fumoto, IMHO. Still pretty damned convenient to not have to jack with a wrench, and if you have the S or N version with a hose, you have full control of where the oil goes - no more oil spattering around on a windy day for those of us who change oil outside on the driveway.

As for the Magdrain, I figure the oil filter is doing its job already, and wouldn't most of the metallic material in our engine be non-ferrous anyway?

And just so you know, you can change the oil without jacking the car up if you are on stock suspension with this valve. Just drive it on 2x4 and you have enough space.

With my air suspension I just air up and I have enough room lol. I end up sitting and waiting for the oil to fully drain out since everything else takes two seconds.

I'm lowered slightly but I might still have to give this a try next time with my 2x8 ramps.

I recommend using a fumoto valve, have used in all my vehicles never had a problem + they don´t cost much. Check them out at fumoto valve original store.

go with the valve, the fact you can change the oil without any tools besides a jack and stand, ramp, or a decent curb should mean more than a hardly effective magnet placed in the sump.

Get a filtermag, and go with the valve.

I went with a dimple magnetic drain plug. Its a nice piece and for 35.00 Im not out much even if it doesnt work.

another +1 for the Fumoto valve.

I had one on my WRX for 10 years and loved the convenience of it. Does it save you a whole lot of time...ehh prob not but I def liked not having to wrench off the drain bolt.

I got one on the BRZ now and just ordered one for my beater that I just bought.

I have race ramps, but after installing the Fumoto...I decided to put the car on the ground and see if I could reach the valve without lifting the car at all? I was able to. Now granted I am thin, almost 6ft2in, and stock suspension. It was still easy to reach. Will make oil changes a breeze, just snap on white connector/hose and twist...drain into oil pan.

+1 for fumoto and filtermag or other magnet on filter. No mess to clean up. Love it!

Is fumoto valve that convenient? I mean it takes a few second to wrench the drain plug...
