Hey Foobar,

JDM TOM'S = All red lense throughout. All blinks red.
*There are Gray Market imported in JDM TOM'S sets which you have to wire up for US cars and install correct relay. No Warranty.
Then there are JDM sets imported properly through TOM'S USA which are pre-wired for US cars and have full USA warranty sold by authorized TOM'S USA Dealers which we (468Power) are.

US DOT Approved TOM'S by Depo = Will have red blinker and side reflector light.
*We will carry these as well.

So the only visible difference between what I got from you in your original batch and the DOT approved ones is that the blinker changes from amber to red, and the side reflector now has a light that blinks with the turn signal? The amber part I understand, but the side reflector light I'm not sure of - what's that about?

I guess I also don't understand why the original ones can't be DOT approved. I checked the regs and the rear turns can be red or amber, and the side rear reflector does not have to be lit. It can simply be a red passive reflector.

Ok, this is the official word from my boys at TOM'S USA...

"All TOMS lights are made by DEPO. The only difference between the JDM version and USDM version is:

1. USDM lights will be DOT approved
2. USDM lights will have light in side reflector
3. USDM lights will have red turn signal"

Yes relays are supplied by TOM'S and wiring converted by TOM'S as all the authorized sets imported by TOM'S USA.

this means that BOTH have red blinkers - that's not a difference; it's the same thing.

I think Jdm doesn't have reflectors on side.

usdm does.

when cars have their lights shinning at you, probably helps prevents t boning

JDM most certainly has reflectors on the sides. They don't have a bulb there however while apparently the USDM DOT does. This is not a DOT requirement though so and neither are the red turn signals so I'm not sure why they aren't getting DOT approval on the original version. I think the amber turns and the non-lit side reflectors look better, IMHO.

'blinkers' refers to turn signals, not reflectors.
