Just coz its "OEM" doesnt mean its stock. Im guessing he's using EJ bearings and some modifications.
I wouldnt compare the FA20 to a 2jz. Maybe a 1uz.

Well, if it can outdo the F20 S2000 engine, then we can talk. Those are pushing 800+ on stock internals. But I do think this engine is stronger than people give it credit for. Taking 600 on stock internals is no joke...

Yeah even tho it wont last long that is seriously impressive.... I can only imagine what kind of power it can dish out with forged internals and sleeved and bore....

I honestly like the FRS more than an S2000... S2000 isnt practical at all and its not comfortable to drive..... if i wanted a car that I was going to be cramped inside I'd go with an Aerial Atom.

Ok, here again,...do some research folks,...please don't think I'm trashing FRS300 build because I do believe he is running stronger than what comes equipped in the FA20 bearing wise and I believe they are doing it right. I have no skin in the game (except my own car) but every shop and tuner does and they are very hesitant in telling the truth about things,...you can opine why they don't share info for yourself. What better way to see whats what with this car than to talk to someone actually racing this platform, it gives you an idea in the future what to expect from this engine by ringing it out in a short time what we will do in a longer time span. They are running a TRD supercharger at low boost,...first off this tranny is only rated at 210ftlbs of torque, if your planning at anytime to put slicks or semi slicks on this car and run boost, or exceed 210ftlbs and run street tires don't expect the tranny to last long,(good news upgradable gear sets are being made as we speak in Australia)...Hewland has provided a tranny for this race team,....Don at AP has gone to a Tremec after two blown trannies,....none of the drift teams even consider this transmission let alone this engine,...almost all of them swap out the engine and tranny even tho it is capable to produce drift horsepower levels , just maybe not enough at a professional level......don't know not a drifter.
Rod bearings,.Yours truly,...Crawford,....Don,....and the above mentioned race team have either spun or crushed rod bearings, so no isolated incidence here with varying power levels with various tunes, weakness in bearings?,...fuel issue with the OEM ECU knock sensor?,...or oil starvation....its anybody's guess,...the race team isn't taking any chances,...they have now a Motec stand alone.....and have gone to a dry sump system....recommended to me by this race team for cheap insurance run at least a accusump system. This car was built to a price point,....I don't wonder why a a turbo version wasn't made, the upgrades it would need to support it would put it out of reach for the youthful target it was intended for. I know that when I was researching transaxles for my race car, the addition of a transmission oil cooler raised the torque rating of the gearbox by quite a bit.
Unless abused, I bet adding an oil cooler to our transmissions would help keep them together better for turbo applications. Keeping the heat down inside the gearbox definitely helps when big power is applied, because a lot more heat is produced. Simple systems can be installed with lines going into a tapped drain plug and into the filler plug. |

(Current max HP)(current max torque)
(_____________________________) X(miles ran at that power level) = motor score. (Stock max HP)(stock max torque) Ie vortech (263x209) 54967 _______ = _______ = 2.344 x 12000 = 28128 (175x134) 23,450 So my motor score is 28,128. And since I just kicked it up to 274 whp, I have to redo my score, but my mileage will be alot lower, with this method it takes account how long the motor has lasted.

!!! i have heard crawford and the others have blown there motors for what ever reason it was. but for example mine was never built. IM sure these do have a weak point like every stock motor! but it has held up so far so good!! this is the main reason for the route that i have been taking with the car i have the funds to have three of them and boosted and built but that makes no sense. I have abused it given rides to many ppl on the forum. and have alot of turbo miles on my car!! and still starts up perfect. I even now consider holding off of the build to add alot more miles on my kit to show people how it can last im here to HELP!! Last edited by lexusb3; 08-09-2013 at 10:31 PM. |

It's called maths. It's kinda important.
The only way to compare 2 different things is find a common denominator. Ie current HP/stock HP x miles ran as such to get a number that can be compared. So is the 2jz better? Use the equation and find out.
