Way to bump an old thread but has anyone heard anything on what Cosworth are working on? Their website doesn't say much apart from that they are working on the FA20.

I happened to be on their website last night clicking around and seeing if they had anything. They do some great work but probably not the type for most people on the forums.

More commonly Brake horsepower in the states. Some call it Crank horsepower because it is measured at the crankshaft. I've never heard Shaft horsepower myself, but I don't claim to have heard it all.

more work sure, but at the level of prep where ITBs come in the car is probably in pieces anyway.
Nah, you would have four throttle bodies (duh), each with its own MAF and install individual exhaust probes per cylinder. A carefully designed and adjusted manual linkage would cause all four throttle bodies to open the same amount, actuated by the throttle by wire system. There would be a secondary ECU. The secondary ECU would monitor the four intake and exhaust sensor pairs as well as the throttle position and control the injectors.
This would allow the ultimate in mix control: optimized per cylinder. It could also constantly compare the four MAF values and send up a flare if the values got too far apart for some reason (probably mechanical failure in the linkage).

Too bad we don't use carbs any more. The carbs on my old Porsche (50mm PMO carbs) actually made slightly more power than the equivalent FI, but weren't nearly as efficient. Sexy as hell though no doubt!

Some nice 2 barrel down-draft Webers and a throttle cable, some extra time figuring out jetting, no way it would pass smog but it might work for a track car?

I can't see many people buying something similar for this car at that cost. Would it be so f'ing cool? Yes. The reality is that the flat engine is rather expensive to engineer certain parts for. Porsche is the only other manufacturer still using them and their engines are on another level, including cost-wise. However, if an ITB setup were to come to market for a flat 4 Subaru engine this would be the platform I'd expect to see it in, given the limited application in a F/I setup.

EDIT: This car, from what I've seen, has throttle-by-wire. That means an ITB setup gets that much more complicated since you don't have a simple mechanical link between the pedal and throttle body. Some kind of electronic mumbo-jumbo would have to be figured out in regards to the electronic motor that actuates the throttle body, or in this case, 4 ITBs. I simply don't see that kind of research and development going into this platform.

What is this a muscle car? You got something you want to talk about? I don't need to make my car LOOK tough...

I'd rather see something like this:

Is there any reason why you couldn't butcher a stock throttle for the elctronics and hook the stepper motor to a linkage controlling four throttles with a large common plenum and the stock maf just after the filter? There would have to be some maf scalling but i believe ECUTEK can handle that...

P.S. @mike the snake that is a sexy setup

Nice & clean looking 916…!

I had a dual Weber 40 IDF setup on my VW Thing back in the day, nothing sexier than a bank or two of Webers with velocity stacks…!

The only place I have heard SHP (shaft horsepower) is in Turbo prop aircraft engines.

Has there been any updates on this? Nameless announced a couple months ago that they have partnered up with Cosworth. Maybe @Jason@Nameless could give an update as to when we can expect to see something?

They have released it.

Also, I sent a message to their FB page and got this as a reply this morning:

So they're still working on them, that's not much of an update but at least they said that much.
