Saw the same thing when the Mustang Boss 302 came out,... the same thing on their forum with guys selling their cars after the newness and hype wore off , some of us impulse buy, plain and simple. I have way to much money now invested over purchase price in my 86 compared to my Boss LS so I'm stuck with it hell or high water and I'm transforming it into the Lotus Exige I could never fit in ( 6'5''),.. but have lusted over for years.

I have about 1,200 in mods already 800 was already on the car when I bought it since I wanted it that way. I plane on spending 3k more without the TRD exhaust 3.5 k with it. I haven't decided on the exhaust and 2k will be the wheels. I want the black sti rims with red writing on it. I also will be doing all this in like a 5 year span since I never plan to sell.

Agreed. There are currently 1,365 people that have voted that they do have a chirping sound in their cars, and there are just a handful of cars for sale in the classifieds section right now. And about 1/5th of the cars for sale aren't even 86's.

Going sideways is expensive.
Did i mention i have yet to track or auto x and i've gone through two sets of tires and on my third? 23,000mi only! I have friends with cars running 400HP having more tread life then me. ![]() This car lifestyle is very expensive, most cannot afford it and will mostly hold it off intill they are middle aged and the kids are out of the house. Thats why majority of classic/performance car owners are around 40-60.

This is true. People always seem to forget the value of a kid on the black market. I don't have a kid, but I bet if I did I could trade it for two full sets of NT01's easily.

Honestly the finances are probably the big one though...plenty of threads here with people posting nearly and double-digit interest or having change of life (i.e. children, different type of job) circumstances.
Alternatives...some people just can't be happy with a car for long periods of time...think of how many Vs.threads have people coming from cars they haven't even owned the industry 18 months (turnover). There could be people with early cars (not the first 86 but soon after) who have almost had their cars 18 months now and will be looking for their next ride. There were plenty of people who worked at dealerships for other makes that bought the cars for comparison (industry brag rights, blah blah) and now want to unload. |

For the same reason that cars are generally getting more insulated, bigger, heavier, and more powerful. Basically all the things the FR-S is NOT, but what most people actually want.
I have a feeling a lot of people read the glowing enthusiast/magazine reviews and went out and bought one, without really understanding what makes this car special. This car was never going to appeal to the masses. No insulation? Unfiltered feedback from the car? Driving feel? A tiny NA engine you have to rev to 7000 rpm just to make just 200 hp? Bare-bones interior? Let's face it, most people will just associate that with "cheap and gutless". What this car excels at is providing the best, most direct driving experience you can have for the price. And most people don't want that, whether they realize it yet or not. Car manufacturers like BMW, Lotus, Honda, etc. have realized that for years now. And that's why their cars are heading the direction they are.

I think this is the perfect car for someone like me. I've finished all my graduate school work at the age of 29 (no debt, whoot!), I've got a stable job with a solid income for at least 5 years (fellowship), girlfriend and I don't want kids for several years, and we live in a city where driving is unnecessary (subway is our main means of transit). BRZ for me (us?) made sense since I don't ever drive people anywhere and I had enough money saved up to put down a $18k down payment and got 1.5% financing on the balance of the car. |
