the problem with the 2jz is that it ruins what this car is designed for .. nimble and fun to drive will not be .. fast in a straight line with an anchor up front .. not only the full setup will add weight but wont help with the center of gravity... the car will weight around 350-400lbs more up front and will need lots of suspension work to counter the effect of the higher COG so forget about the good handling part once you do that .. a ls swap would at least keep a good weight distribution while having as much potential as the old iron block 2jz...

Has nobody thought of the VQ35? Cheaper, can easily make great power, lighter, sounds great, etc. Maybe I'll have to volunteer for the FR-Z project
in a couple years

Easy to make power from a vq35? Fully built engine for anything over 400whp, doesn't sound easy to me.

![]() Gonna roll with ~500whp. Will probably have to drop the compression a bit. Either way, much better power below 3000rpm. Not to mention, cheap, again. Saving weight and keeping a good balance meanwhile getting power down low and reliable good power up top.

Truth. I would say the FA20 with a decent turbo kit already tuned and included would sell for a decent price. I wouldn't think a 2003-2005 VQ with turbo kit, pistons, rods, etc would cost much more than ~$5000-6000. Of course there's labor too. Maybe there's a shop that would want to do it and sponsor it like the OP and like D3PE did with my car.

Best of luck with the build, weight distribution is going to be a challenge so every opportunity to move masses as far aft as possible should be taken. The car is 54/46 stock with driver, with pretty much *all* of the added engine weight going directly onto the front tires, it's going to be pushing 60/40. Not conducive to putting down big power! Can the turbos be mounted behind the rear bumper?

LSx is right around 400lbs.
FR-S weight distribution is 53/47. CRUDELY, a 300lb weight increase will total about 3-3100lbs and 1800/1300 (60/40) weight distribution. That's putting every drop of weight in the front just about. Fox body mustangs are rolling around with 60/40 and they can be built to absolutely destroy in drag. See: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ZWfYJyBUl5o"]Mustang battles R35 GTR from a DIG on the street - YouTube[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ7T1r3lB5k"]AV Boys "Grey Mare" Mustang Vs Izzy Performance Porsche Twin Turbo VRT - YouTube[/ame] Anyway, it's all about setup. If he wants to drag/drift the FR-S, this is the *vastly* superior motor and you can argue an LSx swap in the mix but ultimately, his stock block 2JZ is going to hold/produce more power faster(and more reliably) than the FA20 will for a while if ever. And a built 2J is proven. This is all assuming he's doing this for drag/drift. I pointed out before that's all it will be good for (and it will, predictably). But at the end of the day, to say X motor swap will ruin X car is just a load of shit for someone who has either never done an engine swap or is a forum warrior. Another thing, there's more that needs to be upgraded when the platforms peak supporting components can really only handle 400-500whp. Max. Rear ends grenading, axles snapping. If he's going through with a 2JZ swap, I'm sure he's taking into account other stuff that will need to be strengthened/modified. |

Wouldn't the built motor from crawford with forged pistons and rods and a stout turbo kit be much cheaper than $25,000? Plus it would make plenty of power for the car to make it ridiculous while keeping the Low Center of Gravity and weight down?
The Shortblock – CP S3L-i FA TURBO Shortblock Fully Blueprinted And Assembled is at about $4,000 right now on their site. The installation kit they sell is $600 A turbo kit from various tuners is around 6-7 grand and can make upwards of 500 horse and could easily but upgraded with a bigger turbo etc to bring the power up. That would be a total of $11,600 before labor which would be considerably cheaper than getting the totally different motor to work right. Just something to think about. |

Well, then you have the sound of a I6/V8...
The built CP BRZ overheated apparently. I wonder what a 750whp flat 4 dyno would look like... |

I think that was just in Matt Farah's test drive. They have since fixed it, I think.
