My friend, that's just a bad habit you've learned over the years. Proper seating and steering wheel position should be with your hands on 9 and 3, at chest level. If you stretch out your arms over the top of the steering wheel you should be able to bend your wrists over it.

After looking at the photo in my OP, my perspective isn't nearly as bad as it shows. But I did readjust slightly after reading some of the feedback and I now have the seat slightly more reclined and the wheel a notch higher. Tach is just barely hidden at the top of the arch. Thanks for all the discussion!
