Usually wherever the auto tans puts it, which oddly enough seems to be a very close match to what you manual dudes do. It's my first AT, and I have no complaints. A gear change is just a touch away if needed. Even when being a hooligan, it rarely is in the wrong gear, and the rev-match does a better job than I can.
All the bitching about the "torque dip" is still comical. It's almost like it's a two-stroke motorcycle, where lines, cornering speed and energy management were more important the pure power. Plenty of that around attention-whoring around, and "asshole" is just what people think. What purpose is served cruising through a college campus at 10 mph at 10k rpm other than to call attention to your micro-penis? |

For around town driving I will down shift when I get down to 2,000 rpm's and I will upshift when I'm a little short of 3,000 rpm's. In 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gear you aren't lugging if you keep it at or above 2,000 rpms.

Might be a silly question but do you guys think the engine rather be revved or better to use the highest gear possible (without lugging the engine of course). I would assume there is more wear and tear but is it a day and night difference?

Ill drive this car like how i drove my STi for 3 years. With a heavy right foot. With 175k miles before i sold it full of autox, track days, and mountain roads the compression, and leakdown were still really good. I think cars that are meant to be driven should be driven very hard most of the time. |

Are you "messen wich us" ..?? .....
![]() If not, I'll betcha your engine don't like that much ... ![]() To the OP, for just driving around, I usually keep the revs around 3,000, give or take 500. If it looks like I want to "take off", I'll kick them up to 4000 to 4500. Either my FR-S doesn't do the torque dip thing, or I just don't realize it .... ![]() humfrz |

I just try to keep it as quiet as possible. 40+mph, I use my 6th. I don't want people thinking I'm an ass.
