Curse, Hail Style

So I will admit that the curse has hit me as well, but not from an car accident standpoint...but from nature. Some of you may remember this thread from 2 months ago (HERE), and for the first time in my 30+ years living in the Cleveland area, we have had a strong hailstorm for the SECOND time this summer. Here are the results. (Apologies for the low quality)

And thats just the hood (and Hail). There are dents all over the roof and trunk (again) as well as the front and rear fenders. Only parts that don't have dents on them are the bumpers.

So I get to file another insurance claim (never had to do it this many times ever before), probably watch my rates go up for something that is completely out of control, and worry about my car every time the sky grows dark.

I know Toyota made the body panels thinner (and the hood AL) to save weight, but this is ridiculous. I may have not bought this car if I had known how damn fragile the body panels are. Time for my second set of repairs (as well as the purchase of a padded car cover (I welcome suggestions).

Thanks for letting me rant. I'm going to go cry in a corner now.

Damn, son. When was the last time you made an adequate sacrifice to the hail gods?

crap :-( Sorry to read that, and how much bad luck do you need to get hailed two times in such a short time.
Hope it gets fixed soon, and wish you more luck in the future.

PS: Left you a thanks as a cheer up, hope it works ;-)

wow that absolutely sucks, maybe you should start looking into carbon fiber parts and getting it color matched. (Hood and trunk at least)

Carbon Fiber/Fiberglass is a possibility, but I do live in Ohio--I've seen road salt and winter eat through that stuff in a single season. Insurance only covers OEM replacement, of course.

Short version from last time: Hood & Trunk replaced, roof repaired via some creative priming. I honestly think the roof wasn't as dented as much this time because they used extra primer to mask some of the dents they couldn't get out. Insurance is State Farm, currently awaiting a call from their claims department.

That really sucks that this has happened to you twice.. I would be incredibly frustrated too. I pay extra every month to park in a covered garage at work to help minimize mother nature (hail, snow, ice, etc).

Good luck! I think the padded cover is a great idea. Many cars now are using lighterweight body panels to improve fuel economy, I suspect hail will be even more damaging as time goes on...

They will pull the dents as much as they can, add filler and paint it.

Bingo. The scary fact is that with the number of dents that are on the hood, it was actually cheaper to replace. Looks like I will be on #3 soon enough.

The reason I'm asking is because I had a MKIV GTI and when I had hail damage they cut off the roof and replaced it.

That was option B. Given the results that I had with the prime/sand/paint, I'd do it again.
