In my 23 years of driving I've never had a flat,
but a doughnut is cheap insurance, otherwise i'd have to do CAA every year : (

Give me a spare. If I want to save weight then I will take it out and leave it at home while risking being stranded somewhere with a flat.

My 06' Miata did not have a spare. I did augment the can of goo and miniature tire inflator with a tire plug kit. Luckily, all but one of my tire issues was a slow leak (nail, screw), that allowed me to inflate and limp up to Discount Tire to get it patched.

A full sized spare would be nice, provided the fronts and rears are the same size. I had a rare sidewall puncture on my front right tire on my current DD 08' Civic SI sedan. In the rain of course. Since the SI comes with a donut, and has an LSD, I had to jack up the right rear, remove the tire and replace it with the donut. I then lowered the car, jacked up the front right, removed the wheel/punctured tire, replaced with full sized wheel/tire from right rear.

The recently updated Scion FRS webpage specifies slightly wider rears. I hope this is a typo. It bugs me not to be able to rotate my tires.

I can't image a full spare tire fitting in the FR-S, but I would be fine with a doughnut.

I think these pictures came after the initial show-down from Toyota side. Now, are these tires production ready?

I would guess that the purpose of these pictures is to show you how to carry that 4 track tires to the track. In DD mode, you get a donut spare tire with a nice flush cover at the back. When on track day, take off the donut spare and cover and then put on the first track tire in this spot and lock it. Then you can stack another one on top of it and the remaining two tires to the back seat. This may be the way that you could fit 4 track tires for track day.

Once upon a time my 19yr old house mate begged me to take him to Glendora Mountain Road (Los Angeles) just to take a look. He crashed his 350z into the curb going at 15mph. He didn't know how to change a damn tire. But lucky there was one cuz otherwise I'd be stranded with him.

Are not the stock Tires some Michelins like the Prius? We can see the spare tire is a Yokohama on stel rims. Interesting!

A donut is fine with me. I don't want a can of goo and compressed air, mainly because cleaning that goo off of the inside of the wheel is a pain when you do replace the punctured tire, and if it isn't cleaned off, it can make balancing that tire a real PITA. They also tend to go out of balance faster if you do leave the goo in there.
