First mod should be to learn everything about your new car and then how to drive it.

Do you have a photo of said FR-S..??

Tires increase your grip on the road?

Brakes allow you to brake harder and faster at higher speeds? I guess some of these are obvious.

Turbo is for your engine? It increases HP?

A Supercharger just adds more HP than a turbo?

Sway bar decreases ... sway, lol.

Does all of this sound right to you guys?

The best mod a driver can do is drivers mod. Meaning know your car and more importantly know your own limit.

I don't blame you for not knowing where to start, since there are already mods for everything you can think of on this car.

A couple notes on frs mods:

- If you're doing any engine/exhaust mods, start with the headers. That is where people are seeing the most gains, and it also smooths out the torque band so you get a bit more power at the lower end of the rpm range.

- Get coilovers if you want to go super low, or really dedicate your car to handling and performance. Otherwise, lowering springs (which keep the stock shock absorbers) will do just fine. I hear that the Swift springs are more comfy than the stock ones, while still lowering the car about an inch.

- Wheels: Whatever you think looks good. Enkei RPF1s are popular for a good reason: very light and people generally agree they look good. If you're gonna be drifting, you will want a second set of wheels. Pick up a second set of stock wheels if you don't want to spend big bucks. They'll do just fine for it.

Most people who track their car recommend going to the track completely stock, then seeing what you feel the car needs, and buying that specific part.
Thanks for the kind words and great information! =D Also, what kind of upgrades will void your warranty, or even stop you from passing smog? Headers, Turbo, Supercharger, exhaust?

I'm from Jersey, where we don't worry about pollution, but I believe to pass smog you need to keep the catalytic converters on your car, so look for "catted" exhaust systems.

The warranty kinda depends on your dealer. Some are mod-friendly, some aren't. The California section of this forum might have a thread about which dealers to go to. The official rule is that for a warranty to be void, the aftermarket part must be somehow responsible for the damage. If you supercharge your FRS and the taillights get condensation, you can still get new taillights under warranty. But if you blow a hole in the side of the engine, that's your own fault

From a performance perspective:

Enlarging the diameter of the pipe decreases back pressure which effectively increases horsepower. The more detonated air you move out of the compression chamber the more oxygenated air can be pushed in. Making for a larger detonation and this more horsepower. Most modifications to exhaust will be to remove restrictions in flow, either by straightening the bends in the pipes or enlarging their diameter. Header, Cat, Muffler, they all restrict the flow of air and increase back pressure. Most aftermarket systems geared towards performance seek to lessen these restrictions. And yes, it does generally change your exhaust note.

Turbochargers take in the air coming from your exhaust system, compress it and push it back into the engine intake, this results in increased compression within the engine cylinder, high pressures cause a more forceful detonation which effectively increases horsepower.

You are a little off here. Superchargers have operate in a similar principle to a turbo, they push more air into the cylinder in order to increase the detonation, however, supercharger ex systems are driven off the crankshaft of the engine rather than the engine exhaust, this means that they build "boost" instantly whereas a turbo takes time to accumulate enough pressure from the exhaust to be effective. Generally supercharges don't provide as much compression as a turbo and therefore provide a smaller power increase, however the power is available immediately and whereas a turbo will have some "lag" before it kicks in.

Very general explanation but the sway bars connect the left and right side of a cars suspension together, in general the stiffer the sway bar, the tighter the suspension is linked together from left to right. A stiffer sway bar means that each side of the cars suspension influences the other to a greater extent. This is a very very general explanation, if you are interested in tuning your suspension a highly recommend doing some research to get a better understanding of how each component influences the others.

Not one ... but two!

Plasti dipped rims, borderlands stickers, wrapped garnishes, a black license plate cover and if you look closely, a soot ball from spirited away hanging from the rear view.
