All Possible Car Upgrades?

Hey guys,

I'm very new to car knowledge, and am trying to learn about the many possible upgrades and options available for my FR-S. (It's really hard to upgrade if I don't know what to choose from.)

So with that being said ... What kind of upgrades are there and how do they affect my car?

Thanks guys! :happy0180:

clinton jones from youtube? haha nice.

E: well the main question is, what do you plan to do with the car. Do you plan to just make it your daily driver/weekend car? Or do you want to autocross/track it in the future?

Hey Bk! Yea man, same Clinton Jones =D Any favorite videos?

Okay, so I don't want the car to be too uncomfortable to drive, which means don't go nutz on suspension? I want to take the car to the track for time trials and a bit of drifting.

Favorite is probably the sleeping dogs one, the fighting scenes were awesome. That and all the lan party videos haha. Your best bet is just to research suspension, tires, etc. The technical topics will help you a lot with any questions. Also remember to search, because most of your questions will have probably been answered by someone else.

Yeah the list of parts will be long. What I always do when I join up on a new forum for a car I just got, I would look around the individual sections, wheel section, exterior, lighting, see what other guys are doing to their car, THEN I go to the vendor section, browse around there to see what's up. Check vendor's websites, then check back on the forums to see what's popular and what is reviewed and liked the most.

Copy that. It will still be nice to know everything out there and a list of how they affect your car. There must be a pdf list somewhere on the net. And yea, searching is the first thing i'd do, but at the same time, I love posting =D

Thanks Bk! (Sleeping Dogs is my personal favorite project.)

this. Also dont be intimidated to call tuning shops around your area about questions. They would probably be more than happy to answer anything they can just because that'll be a potential sale lol.

searching would be good as this is probably the third thread started on "what mods can I do" this week.

I don't think there is a definitive list because the number of things you can do is pretty much everything. You can rebuild the whole car into something else if you wanted? The only thing you can't do is change the frame right?

Apologies for the redundancy of the post. =[ I'll take a closer look next time around. Thanks for the heads up. Here's what I think I know.

Exhaust JUST changes the sound of your car. It might add a couple HP?

Tires increase your grip on the road?

Brakes allow you to brake harder and faster at higher speeds? I guess some of these are obvious.

Turbo is for your engine? It increases HP?

A Supercharger just adds more HP than a turbo?

Sway bar decreases ... sway, lol.

Does all of this sound right to you guys?

You did that Sleeping Dogs live action video? That was one of the coolest fight scenes ever!

I don't blame you for not knowing where to start, since there are already mods for everything you can think of on this car.

A couple notes on frs mods:

- If you're doing any engine/exhaust mods, start with the headers. That is where people are seeing the most gains, and it also smooths out the torque band so you get a bit more power at the lower end of the rpm range.

- Get coilovers if you want to go super low, or really dedicate your car to handling and performance. Otherwise, lowering springs (which keep the stock shock absorbers) will do just fine. I hear that the Swift springs are more comfy than the stock ones, while still lowering the car about an inch.

- Wheels: Whatever you think looks good. Enkei RPF1s are popular for a good reason: very light and people generally agree they look good. If you're gonna be drifting, you will want a second set of wheels. Pick up a second set of stock wheels if you don't want to spend big bucks. They'll do just fine for it.

Most people who track their car recommend going to the track completely stock, then seeing what you feel the car needs, and buying that specific part.
