External mic makes ALL the difference in the world. Video is so much more engaging and exciting with the right sound.

No external mic:

I've been really enjoying this angle for autocross as well as the interior rear window for gear selection review

I tried a few angles today:

My typical tow hook mount. I have some steel scrap sandwiched around the tow hook with a 1/4-20 bolt through it and a tripod mount for the GoPro on the bottom. I put some teflon tape to build up the threads on the tow hook so I can get it parallel to the ground for this. Remote mic is under the hood near the battery. I need to get an extension for it so I can try something else.

In car, mounted with a suction cup in the top right corner of the windshield. Not really a useful angle but now I know how goofy I look when I drive. Sound using the internal mic was "ok."

And another just below the driver's side mirror. I really like this angle for showing how close I'm getting to cones. Actually I think the rear fender would be a better plase for it. I'm very anxious to try this on the passenger side next time. Internal mic sounds awful.

My GoPro Cam is mounted on my rearview mirror. The handlebar/seat post mount + another bit to turn it 90 degrees to let it face forward. The camera is upside down but you can invert it through the iPhone app with the WiFi back.

Kinda off topic, but what are you using to log the throttle position and brake on/off?

It's an ok view, too much interior view vs. seeing the actual track.

I plan on building this to mount the GoPro to, and attach it to the passenger side headrest bars:

Which will give this kind of view:
Don't waste your time building. For only $20 you can get the handlebar mount for the gopro. Pull the headrest up and there's plenty of room to attach it there. I can take a picture for you if you want an example.

Aim solo DL for the data, gopro for the camera, and a software like trackvision, race render, or dashware to overlay.

side window just because it shows your hand/feet movement if angled properly. Also another angle that's nice is having it towards the back looking behind you for a track day.
