Now do I believe ethanol in gas exacerbates the issue? I sure do. I also think the extreme heat also helps cause the issue. However, I tend to belive this guy that has actually taken a pump apart. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41776 I really think this may be the issue. |

The washer was mentioned as being the offending component a long time ago. Unless the US has been sent special crap HP pumps that the other countries don't get, then it's ethanol reducimg the lubrication and increasing the friction. That's where heat comes in to increase the friction and therefore the noise. |

Bad Moon isn't the only one who has tried ethanol free without success:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...postcount=2242 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=910 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...5&postcount=17 And you guys are forgetting the thousands upon thousands of cars running E10 and the handful running E85 without any chirps at all. Saying "it must not have been ethanol free then" is burying your head in the sand. 11k miles and my chirps have gone away, all E10, maybe it's a break in process so to speak, skullworks is the only community member who's seen it apart and doesn't think it has anything to do with the fuel. Edit: A couple weeks ago I went through a drive in Napa valley, quite spirited, quite hot, about 110 degrees. If any crickets were left they would have been screaming. |

If it's not the fuel then Japan must be shipping special low quality cars to the US for the special low prices you pay.

Not sure of my exact mileage, but I have had the car for almost 2 months and it has been very hot here this week (well over 90 degrees). Last 3 fillups have been with Sams 92 octane gas and I still don't hear any crickets. I assume I could hear them in my garage with the radio off and windows down?

Every car meet I've gone to 3/4 of the people had chirps and the only people who didn't were people like me who ran E0. I think its more likely the people who aren't having success aren't actually getting E0 or have some other circumstance that puts them beyond the help of running E0. E0 may not be the fix all, but it sure as hell seems to work for the majority of people who try it. I personally know 5 people who have switched and seen their crickets disappear. |

All shell V-Power ethanol free her whole life. Crickets off and on in the summer months. The inability to hold idle and the crickets during idle, is just the car asking and begging you to give her gas and start driving. Obviously.

No offense but you joined the forum quite recently and it's new to you but this thread started over a year ago and we've heard it all before. Over and over and over again. What is amazing is that over 80% of the cars have this problem in the US, according to the survey here and Subaru still haven't fixed it. |
