I am taking the wait and see approach. What is the latest 01x calibration?

It's the one on the SA TSB which describes the problem & fix in some detail.

Even if we say the number is 100 people, the precentage is still .003%. I find it hard to believe that more than 1% of all cars have had to get their DI's replaced by now. The Internet would be blowing up.

Can it happen? Yes, we know it can. Is it likely? No. Should every FR-S and BRZ owner be worried everytime they drive their car that the engine will blow up? No.

I understand you are obsessed with this issue. I applaud those that are working to get this issue researched and fixed. I truly feel for those that have had DI failures and can only imagine how frustrating it is. But let's please try to use commonsense and stop the doom-mongering. It is not helping anyone.
While I agree that the majority of owners won't have a problem, I am concerned about those that track their cars. Of those 30k sold, how many have been tracked consistently? Probably only a few hundred at the very most. Of those, how many have DI failures? Would be a interesting stat to know. I personally know of someone who tracked the car only 6 times and then sustained a DI failure.

The STi will either have a failing oil pickup or faulty ringland(s). It's what they do.

The difference is that maybe I won't be treated like a scamming criminal when I bring it to Subaru to fix. Or at the very least, they won't feign complete ignorance on the issue when I bring it up.

My problems with the FR-S wasn't just that it had "teething issues", my problem was that bringing it in to get it looked at somehow made me the asshole.

Thank you and you would be obsessed if you had worked in this industry for 20 years saving to buy a new lightweight RWD car like this only to succumb to a serious engine problem before 7500 miles. The dealers are no help.

Toyota has always been an industry leader, the company I work for has gone to great lengths to implement the Toyota business model, Toyota have truly built outstanding reliable cars the last 25 years.

There is no latest 01x calibration, it is not official and no dealer will "flash your car to 01x. It exists in some obscure SA market of less than 100 cars in the entire country and is being pushed here in the US as a sales gimmick for Ecutek dealers (which void your warranty if you use their product.)

This is just the common sense reality of the situation. I never tracked or modded my car, never even been to an autocross. I just live in a hilly area.

And I hate to burst ft86club's bubble but not many owners have joined this forum (everyone uses facebook these days), not many who have the problem even know what it is and how could they ? Most dealers don't even acknowledge it.

Do I know the answer? Nope. Does anyone here know? Nope. That's what we paid Toyota $25k for and its time they earn their money.

Not everyone joined the forums, but we have more than enough to know how strong an issue can be, alot of people post ONLY for talking about a breakdown. After spending alot of months daily on a forums you get a glimpse of what is a common failure for a certain car. The DI issue is very very small, there is more people having problem with aftermarket intakes than DI failure. I get what you are saying, but on a business side, toyota will not recall their cars because of this, they will only deal on a case per case basis through warranty, and if I were you, I'd wait or just go buy another car without problem (lol) or drive it the way it is and not shift at redline within that 0.6 second or whatever it is.

Totally agree with you on this. I think you're playing with fire if you decide to get an aftermarket reflash, personally. Don't expect to get your engine covered under warranty if they find out your ECU has been reflashed by an aftermarket company. Some will get away with it, some won't. I think your odds are better if you keep the car stock, hoping Subaru does the right thing when the time comes.

No one knows how real of a problem it is and most the people on the forum won't pull the injectors to look. So until we stack up some real miles it will continue to be the half empty vs. half full debate.
