I read the first few pages then gave up haha.

EcuTek is way to expensive, even more so here in Australia, it's way over priced.
It is cheaper to order a cable and have it sent to a US PO Box and have it forwarded, then buy the tunes from US companies.
AUD$1800+
it's not worth the few KW gain you might get.. \

@swift996 i had this happen in my car. Ever since it happened I have found the best way to verify my cable has a solid connection (until I repin my obd2 port) is to go into data logging/map access mode for a few minutes prior to flashing. If the car doesn't drop connection after a few minutes in map access mode, then I know that I have a solid connection and can proceed with the flash.

A bit of a pain, but not nearly as bad as being stranded.

Thanks, I found if it goes through the Query ECU process than it's good. I'm getting a new cable sent so I'll see if that was truly the issue. At least for now though I'll just leave it alone because my car = fun to drive

When mine failed it did so after completing the query ECU process successfully and flashing about 50% of the rom. Hopefully the new cable fixes it, although it looks like a lot of OBD2 ports on these cars are having their pins stretched out. Certain adapters work better than others in my car, that is for sure.

Once i verify my port is good and whether or not i need to repin it, i'll be plugging in an OBD2 extension cable that i keep permanently connected, then do all my plugging/unplugging on the other end of the cable, that way the cars port doesn't get worn by repeated plugging/unplugging, instead the extension cable does.

I've never worked with a tuner who retunes for free. Software updates are software updates; they add features, but it doesn't change the tune itself.

It's like getting iTunes updates; Apple gives the updates to you for free, but you don't get any more content for free.

Both Visconti and FA20club provide updates free of charge (assuming it's not a major change.) Things like adding a header or intake they'll retune for free based on your logs.

Major changes (sc/turbo) obviously require you to purchase a new tune.

Seems there is some level of confusion even with customers about what is 'updated' for free and what 'minor tune changes' are covered etc.

I mean 'free updates for life' to my mind is extremely different from 'free tunes for life'.....which is what some people that posted are under the impression they will get.

If I got free retunes for life, I'd gladly shell out a few THOUSAND dollars, because I certainly will be getting more than my money's worth.

That's how we do it. Not sure what limits the other vendors use, but as long as you stay within the same type of induction, your updated calibrations are free for as long as you own the car

So would you be against a customer selling your "updated tune for life" to another person assuming you could confirm the first person removed from their car?

Everyone is talking about these free updates but what does it matter who is getting these free updates, the first or the second customer.

I can understand license because that is tied to your ECU but in the perfect world they should be able to "untie" it from you ECU if you are no longer using it.

And saying these aren't canned tunes is kind of misleading, out of the 300+ tuned BRZ/FRS's how many just run the tune they are given? Im guessing that number is way over 80 percent.

I know I have never requested a fine tuned tune because they have always ran just fine(on base/canned tune), as will most others.
