When you go through the programming process, you Query the ECU to pull the ECUtek parameters -- including the license. I flash without an Internet connection. I do, however, update ECUtek software when I get a new tune. Just to ensure that the versions match up.

A partial flash will certainly bork things up. I made sure to disable and power saving features in Windows to ensure that it didn't put the computer or USB to sleep while programming.

Hope you get it sorted out!

Rich sometimes says shit that blows my mind.

No Internet connection needed.

And for those who are bitching about the lost license thing, i feel your pain .. Trust me.

Just so happens that I've really been pushing ecutek for a fix and tomorrow a new version of ProECU will be available that will fix this issue.. Yes no more lost license .

Still never got a response to my launch control , flat door shifting , ecu recovery , immobilizer disable, AF correction #3 disable, boost cut for turbo cars..guess brzedit doesn't have that.

Saved two motors last week with my racerom boost cut.. I must have saved at least 20 motors this year with that feature.. Something brzedit does NOT have.

There's a bunch of threads with people reporting this. Pins slightly pulled out, etc. Seems ours is a bit fragile. Would it still successfully query/sync with the ECU and just not flash if that were the case, or would it not have any connectivity? I suppose it depends on the pins pulled.

No connection at all.. But sometimes connection isn't that good and disconnects or drops out during the flash

I thought Toma stated somewhere that they had flat-foot shifting and launch control at least, though it may go about it in a different way. Would like to get a response on the brzedit featureset as well. Someone needs to make a side by side comparison spreadsheet of these options, sticky the damn thing, and put this argument to rest. BRZEdit vs EcuTEK vs Unichip vs ... that BMW guy's opentablet?

So what about data logging? For example if I were to order a turbo kit with a 91 octane map with ecutek, then I want to up the boost and add some ms109.. but I'm no where near a shop with a dyno.. could I do a street tune with data logs? I'm leaning towards brzedit because it seems a little more open in that sense. I'm just speculating though as I literally have no experience with tuning

If you want to tune yourself you'll need unichip or brzedit..

Ecutek is for pro tuners

Turns out it was a bad cable or should I say I used a friend's cable and it worked. Not 100% sure it was the cable but hopefully a new one will eliminate the issues I've had.

The different cable worked. Mike at Moto-East was super helpful on a Sunday but just a risk you take. I don't expect a tuner to be available 24x7 but if you expect your car to be, just know that if something goes wrong, you might be without a car. I think the issue was the cable, for $350, you would expect better out of a cable (if that was truly the issue).

CORRECTION: when the flashing process fails, you lose the license which then has to be re-issued. That's the part that requires the internet connection. You can flash without active internet connection. I apologize for the error. ProECU update tomorrow should be rectifying this issue.
That right there is a deal-breaker if it's not fixed.

I should have been more clear.. my fault. What I meant was could I send those logs to an ecutek tuner to tweak while I do the driving? My problem is that I'm not close to any ecutek master tuners.. or any dyno facility at all for that matter, its a PITA

Yeah, people do that all the time.

If you want multiple revision in a short period of time I suggest you setup something with your tuner ahead of time..
