Agreed. I'm just getting the headers. The downstream stuff presents diminishing returns based on the reading I've done here. Did the same on my old B16 and SR20DE cars.

IIRC one of the 200whp Dynojet cars only made 173whp on a Mustang, which probably reads about 140whp stock. Good luck with your build.

Good point! Elevation and available fuel are huge!

I was thinking of also getting headers and a tune after talking to one of the guys from DA Motorsports yesterday at SPOCom. I'm just wondering how loud it'll be. I used to have a full exhaust setup on my old Tiburon and got pulled over a couple times before deciding not to deal with the trouble. Any one know if it's within legal sound limits?

I live in California and bought the car out of state. That means I have to smog it now, and every 2 years henceforth. The real question is whether or not the remaining CAT is sufficient to pass the sniffer.
That would be awesome if it does pass the sniffer.

Agreed. The further back in the system, the less benefit there is from increasing exhaust system capacity. The smaller oem pipe can actually help maintain gas velocity as EGT is reduced, especially after passing through the cats. This being what people really mean when they say incorrect stuff about needing "backpressure".

A header with stock exhaust on the 86 sounds great, IMO. Not too loud at all.

I see. The only racing I plan on is some auto-x and 1/4 miles just for fun so I only want wheels, tires and more torque. Besides, I spent $6k on my last car and recovered maybe $1000 when I sold it. If I had been smarter I would have invested that $6k and had $10k instead.

As a NY resident, this is excellent news. Just ordered a RevWorks UEL (no cat on their product), and assumed I may have to reinstall stock pieces once a year.

...Sorry OP, I have nothing to contribute to your initial question
