AFAIK, registering an out of state car in California requires a smog.
If mine doesn't pass, it's not that big of a deal to put the stock exhaust manifold on for the test.

Doesn't California have a provision for cars that are newer than a certain threshold? Here in NY, you go for the state inspection every year, but the first two years do not involve an emissions test. Every year thereafter, it's an OBD2 test (basically plug in to the OBD2 make sure no CEL's or codes, sensors in ready state, good to go).

There's an entire thread devoted to those who have achieved 200whp without e85. Not only is it possible, but I think we will see it more often; those waiting for Nameless headers and such ought to be posting initial dynos by the end of the month if the release date of mid July is correct.

I think in California with CARB an all its way stricter they might even do visual checks instead of OBD2 like in NY or here in PA

pretty dang close to 200whp on 92 pump. performed by drift office too so it's not some over inflated, unknown 3rd party dyno

My point was more that not everyone with a header, intake, full exhaust and tune will automatically reach 200whp even though a few have.

Yea but you'll get damn well close to it for under $6000 (quite a bit of money), and I don't think one of those stage 2 tune from gt86speedfactory will do it, it would have to take maybe a day of dyno tuning (almost an hour away from me) with a qualified ecutek tuner. but its worth it to have the torque dip disappear and to may the car at least defensible to some of competition

the region you live in makes a difference on the power; elevation, temperature etc... plays a big part in what power everyone makes.

headers have been one of the best mods for power next to a tune.

What's the $6000 for? A 300whp turbo setup? ~200whp should only cost ~$3000 or ~$100 per whp. I know that stock whp figures vary from 140 to 170 but since all the ~200whp dyno sheets were on Dynojets, we should also use the Dynojet base of ~170whp. IIRC one of the 200whp Dynojet cars only made 173whp on a Mustang, which probably reads about 140whp stock. Good luck with your build.

Good point! Elevation and available fuel are huge!

A header is the best bang-buck mod, IMO. That's why I chose to replace my exhaust from front to rear.
