I thought the US Spec ones had clear lenses with red insides not a red lens. These look like the JDM ones to me.

They're red in red. I can assure you they are US spec ones though based on the easy plug in.

JDM style lens but USDM wiring harness. No need to repin. Just did mine yesterday and the hardest part was removing the OEM relay. You need some serious thin and agile hands to get in there with a screwdriver to undo the latch.

eh I just ripped it out, put the old clip on the new relay, pushed back in.

Also they are only in one style. Red lens, black housing. The pinout for the TOM's USA dealers is plug and play for USDM cars. The ones bought from non USA dealers is pinned for JDM. But all of the lights look and function the same.

So they're "US spec" based solely on the wiring alone? So they are not in fact DOT approved, just wired for our cars, right?

You are correct legally these are not DOT approved. They are TOM'S approved for sale and imported into the USA and prewired/pinned for US vehicles with the correct relay AND A FULL US WARRANTY from TOM'S USA.

The grey market smuggled in TOM'S Tail Lights being sold by other vendors/shops which are not authorized TOM'S USA dealers have NO Warranty in the USA and are NOT prewired/pinned by TOM'S nor are the correct relay included.

The DOT approved versions will be out later this year. Those will have clear glass and the turn signal will be clearly yellow.

Cheers!

I do not think being "clear" and turn signals "yellow" make these DOT legal. My integra and most cars have red blinkers in the rear now. What they look for are reflectors and brightness of the light from my understanding. These are plenty bright if not exact to OEM and they have reflectors on the side and face of the tail light. From what I remember hearing, the were c-marked for Europe.

This is correct as well. The US DOT also looks for reflectors, brightness, and a whole bag of other bureaucratic non-sense. But to the end user - yes there will be a street legal US DOT version out end of this year which will be physically different.
