It isn’t “your song” because you’ve paid to listen to it.. it still belongs to the artist. It’s not a perfect comparison though because I think in this incredibly niche market we’re in, the tuner has even more right to protect his work and decide who can sell and distribute it than even an artist does with their music. And the reason I say that is because Visconti Tuning guarantees free updates for the life of the tune. And that’s a huge commitment because it’s not as simple as applying a “blanket update” to every customer’s tune. Each tune has to be individually updated. And the same is true for the initial tune. It has to be individually adapted to each specific car, because as I’m sure many of you know, there are widely varying ECU models even on the same year and model car, all of which have to be supported and made to work with the base calibration.
A CD can be transferred, iTunes music cannot. This is precisely why I will not support Apple's music store.

Sure, it's no big deal for me to remove the DRM, but I don't support the practice of buying non-transferable licenses, and I speak with my dollars.

On that note, 99% of the time, the music doesn't even belong to the artist.

So here's a question. Do the tunes you create belong to you or to ECUTek? What if there were a clause in your software that said all of your work belonged to ECUtek? (I know they don't... but lets say you suddenly found out...) What if on the next update, they updated their EULA to include such a clause? Do you read the EULA every time you update your software?

I never read manuals cover to cover. I stop when the English is over. No need for French, Spanish, Chinese, etc....

Also to the person that said something about reselling Photoshop. I'm sure you could. Deactivate the software and pass the key along to someone else. I just transferred two CS4 licenses from old machines to new ones this week.

As much I respect ECUtek and there time on this platform I find there "rules" 100% bs. Why must it cost $800+ for JUST a tune that adds ~20hp? What happens if a better tuning software came out? Well now im $800+ down the drain. This is the one reason why I have yet to purchase ECUtek. If ECUtek offered gains like the diablo stage 0.5 tune for the genesis (70+hp) then yea it would be worth the $800+ for digital mod.

A licence is just like dealer added cost for a new car. You're over paying because other options aren't available.

More than 4-500 is simply stupid expensive for a NA tune. Sure if i wanted a custom FI tune on a car not built for it i'm willing to shell out $900.

The only thing that should be considered a one time use is the tune it's self.

My two cents.
This is the shitty part. $900 for minimal gains on a near stock na car. The mail order guys are making a killing on what is essentially one tune fits all. You can pay 300 to 500 for a proper live dyno tune.... or you can pay 300 for something that barely beats a stock tune with advance multiplier set to one and rev limit set to 8000. (Track tested lap times and acceleration data).

Extreme imo. Diablo. Sct. Hypertech provide those tunes for free when you buy there hardware. Oooohhh... I have a cold air kit and exhaust. Better get a 'custom' 900 $ mail order tune lol.

I would encourage people to talk with their cash. Brzedit has the best model at the moment....especially for tuners. I know AEM chose BRZedit and I heard k&n is as well.

It works awesome and for what... $700 you can tune it yourself have a better logger. ...and the support and user base is growing.

Im sure the mail order guys will start supporting you too, there are probably quite a few that will send tunes to you already.

Honestly I see more than just minimal gains from Ecutek. I can understand some of you don't like the business model but 1 year ago when I wanted to get the crappy stock tune improved apon, Ecutek was the ONLY option. I gladly paid $750 for the license, cable and tune with lifetime updates. I don't mind having to pay to play.

That would be hard since they have no interest in this platform. The recent posts here were purely misinformation. Unfortunately misinformation flows freely here.

Completely incorrect they said in an interview or press release somewhere that that currently with their business plan they have no interest in Normally aspirated vehicles, they focus only on forced induction now.

One tune fits all is correct when you load a BASEMAP.
When you send in datalogs to get a revised tune, the tune outcome will be based on your modifications and your particular car... because no two cars will tune the same exact way.

Having done a lot of street tuning, I honestly believe that if you had two identical cars with identical modifications.... one dyno tuned and one tuned over the internet or on the street, the street/e-tune will be within 85-90 percent of the dyno tune power gains. Also, this is completely up to the abilities of the tuner.

Some ECUTEK tuners will also tune over the phone if you go to a dyno.

I know you love to hate ECUTEK, I am actually a fan of open source tuning.... but you drag ECUTEK through the mud like its your job

I do kind of like the Cobb route however it's been known for months that they have opted to not support us or as it seems any na platform.
