Every car has issues. VW, Mazda, etc. I can't imagine taking such a huge financial hit selling a brand new car because of the crickets. It could be so much worse..
Who said he's buying a new car? He's probably buying a bus pass. Since we all know the chirping is so bad it's causing PTSD and probably a few have already filed for divorce.

This is a plaguing problem with the FRS don't sell because of it, there hasn't been a fix yet and its had multiple TSBs put out, quit frankly I think Toyota/Subaru have given up on it because in there last TSB they called it "Normal". But the fact they opened a new case for it proves a bit otherwise. Anyway enjoy the car and just ignore it when your driving you shouldn't really notice it otherwise ask for another replacement and hope its quieter because it hasn't the HPFP hasn't been revised yet.

And it would lessen the torque dip you complained about in another post

I could take some pics i suppose, It is hard to show how the part is(n't) restrained but I'll see if I can get some measurements to help explain the issue.

Toyota/Scion, you lost a customer today....

Scion/Toyota/Subaru,

I just visited a dealership yesterday and had planned to purchase an FRS this weekend. But after seeing that you have allowed more then a year to pass and not taken care of this issue is ridiculous. These car owners bought your vehicle with extreme enthusiasm. They come to talk about your car and advertise your names daily. Even defending you in your lackadaisical handling of this situation. For anyone to buy a brand new car, especially a toyota, and experience sounds that would give outsiders the impression that the engine had issues within the first 100 miles is unacceptable. I have decided to stay with my current vehicle until a suitable replacement arises, or you otherwise get off your high-horse and take care of these people. They clearly cared enough about you to, in some cases, put everything they have into your vehicle. It's a sad day when someone turns from purchasing a Toyota because of reliability, or otherwise quality issues, within the first few hundred miles. Please take care of your people and show them the Toyota I knew growing up. Good luck guys.

No one should be speaking about Ethanol and the crickets, no one has "PROVEN" any co-relation, and that's because there isn't one.

I have a pump apart on my desk I can see the crickets. it is a design characteristic of the pump. there is a "washer" of sorts on the shaft of the pump that isn't restrained but is captured in the assembly. it moves with the pump piston, but not necessarily for any good reason, it looks as if it is there to keep the leak rate down by acting as a diffuser of sorts, it is on the low pressure side of the pump and would realistically only be exposed to the fuel that leaks down past the pump wall
How do you know that the washer is what is causing the noise?

Who the f you think you are telling others that BS.

Ft86 isn't the only direct injection car on the market, but it is the only one with this insanity loud HPFP squeaking issue. It's NOT normal.

Not normal Toyota and Subaru gave up and called it normal while they try and find something you shouldn't

It is normal. This car is not those cars. Do those other car's exhausts all sound the same? They all have exhausts?
