July 10th 2013 new fuel pump same noise instantly
 

Just got the call that after installing a brand new fuel pump that they just received in today, they started back up to hear the crickets are louder than ever! They are keeping my car and opening a new case. Maybe these crickets have more to do with than just the pump!? Stay tuned guys.

No need to stay tuned. They are normal. Accept it or sell the car.

Can you elaborate? Are you certain that you got the new pump? Can you scan your invoice for the part number? :thanks:

I will get the PN for the pump tommorow. I was told they received a new bulletin today and mine is the first case they have had that the problem didnt go away at all.

I don't know why anyone is surprised anymore when they hear crickets even with a brand new pump. There is no fix yet. Swapping out one pump for another will just delay the crickets at best.

mine didnt either. im currently on the waiting list for a new pump.

however, it is normal. use pure gasoline and it goes away. i was told by a local service manager that ethanol is killing these high compression engines - her personally the ethanol content of regular pump gas is the cause for DI failure and pump issues

People swap their out and start to hear the crickets again later down the line, some people say that when you use gas without ethanol it will be quiet. Mine comes and goes here and there, its all just a part of the car.

Just to clarify I called the service manager after work. He said they got a shipment of the pumps in today for a new bulliten. He said they put a new one on only to hear the same sound again. They then proceesed to try another! Same thing. My thing is if its ethanol or certain gas or whatever the case doesnt it seem odd that these 2 supposably new pumps that werent even given time to be introduced to the fuel for more than a few minutes both had no effect at all on the noise? Now maybe the manager is blowing smoke up my ass idk but i will scan the invoice when I get it. They are suupose to tell me tomorrow what they are going to do next. Maybe mine is a different issue all together. Im just trying to keep everyone updated in case new information arises from this.

No one should be speaking about Ethanol and the crickets, no one has "PROVEN" any co-relation, and that's because there isn't one.

I have a pump apart on my desk I can see the crickets. it is a design characteristic of the pump. there is a "washer" of sorts on the shaft of the pump that isn't restrained but is captured in the assembly. it moves with the pump piston, but not necessarily for any good reason, it looks as if it is there to keep the leak rate down by acting as a diffuser of sorts, it is on the low pressure side of the pump and would realistically only be exposed to the fuel that leaks down past the pump wall

Update.. they have no idea what the problem is at this point and said its not causing any harm except that. It is annoying. So I get my brand new car back after 2 days with no improvement. Ill be selling as suggested above. No point in driving something thats annoying as shit. Ill still provide invoice scan tonight.

There's no definitive fix as most already said.

I wonder what people thought of the noisy fuel injector noise/ticking when cars went from carburetors to fuel injection??? They were probably mad that their new cars sounded like crap.

It is the way the car is made, one mechanical high pressure fuel pump made to work in extreme cold or hot, with crappy gas from countries all around the world.

To buy what? A Gencoupe that has a wastegate rattle that is even louder than the crickets? A Chevy Camaro or Ford Mustang that historically have poor resale and quality control?

Every car has issues. VW, Mazda, etc. I can't imagine taking such a huge financial hit selling a brand new car because of the crickets. It could be so much worse..
