Everybody sure does work hard to find something to worry about. I have some tire wear, I think I'll run own to the shop and demand new tires.

Toyota/Subaru need to get this fixed asap or at least give us the ECU update that South Africa has.
This problem alone could determine whether this car will be desirable in the coming years. |

21k miles. Full time job account manager so lots of stop/go driving and part time gig is racing instructor so the car sees some track time.
No issues. Car is unmodified. I don't have any ECU updates done (but that's because Renton Toyota was too incompetent to get the recall flash done). If they're going to fail they need to do in the next 38k miles I own this car so they will be covered by warranty... I suppose I need to visit the track more!

You say that, we all know that, but the warranty doesn't necessarily agree. Autocross is a timed event. HPDE track days are not. Generally we consider autox less taxing on equipment, but for purposes of being denied a warranty for improper use, doesn't autox meet the definition of racing more than a track day? Also, when there are owners who have never done an Autocross or HPDE being told their ECU shows the car was raced, is this even a relevant question? /off-topic Hopefully these issues are proactively addressed by the manufacturer and none of this ever becomes an issue for anyone. Time will tell. |

I've never heard this said about autox, but I have about open tracking. It's basically that, the only way you can legitimately say you are ready to open track a car is if you are willing to take it to the edge of a cliff and push it off. I've got friends who open track on a regular basis. There have been some interesting stories brought back from these events. He's pancaked two sets of TE37's, one from hitting the edge of the track just right (no idea how) and the other from a mysterious 6X6 block of something metal finding it's way under his M. I've seen plenty of wrecks from open track events as well as pictures of cars mid-air, and lots of damage from just loosing control. In autox, you usually shift once, and it's over with in about a minute, not too stressful on the car and you can do something similar or more on the street on a windy road. In open track, you shift MANY times, stay at high RPM's for 20+minute sessions. There are a LOT of cars that find out they have overheating problems when pushing a car this hard. I'm dying to open track my car, but it won't happen until it's paid for, out of warranty and I have another car to drive WHEN this one has something bad happen to it ![]() It will also be set up with a better radiator, and an oil cooler.

Words have meaning. Don't forget that, because the lawyers won't.
Competition = timed event = AutoX/Time Trial/Road racing Spirited driving = non-timed event = canyon roads, road course track days, driving down the freeway in 3 gear because I don't know any better. If was in a position like CSG Mike and ended up with legal representation, I can guarantee you the legal team would pick apart the claim by Subaru about "Racing" asking them to show in their literature how they define "racing" since they already have wording specifying "Competition events" and they have marketing promoting "track driving". Well, he was track driving the car in a non-competition event. IMHO, Subaru's defense doesn't hold water. What concerns me is what the ECU is telling them if that is indeed the case. How could the black box know it was a "Competition event"?... It can't. I'm paying close attention to this. Some neat cars are coming out in the next 3-6 months and I'm not so sure the FRS is going to be worth keeping.

I ran non-oxy for the first year I owned the car and never had crickets. They appeared right after switching to Premium.
