yeah some places are bad. san fran is probably the most expensive place to live in america. im actually up north now and in humboldt i know you can get 2 bedroom apts in the 500 range. havent looked at buying because i dont want to ever leave socal but you can get pints of craft beers for like 2 bucks a pint in the bars. if you steer clear of the big cities i think its pretty cool

Cool. I have always liked northern Cali better personally from my visits.

I didn't mean Cali gets screwed on everything, just was referring to auto related items by my comment.

yeah i know what you mean but when you look at the amount of work it takes to make a dollar here you realize how little work it takes to get a nice car. i mean i have transporters at my hospital that drive audis, bmws, and evos. hell, i only work two days a week at most and i have three cars and a huge tuition but im not really in debt yet. although i did have to move back home to make it through school

Keep in mind too, I'll be trading the RX8 in on a MANUAL FR-S (or BRZ)

yeah then that complaint should be that its heavy, not no tq. i know what your saying but that kind of statement just makes me think that any subsequent statement is just internent babble that is passed on

I don't care what anyone says, I believe in torque 2 weight ratio even though I know gearing plays a massive part. Because the torque figures are so close in this situation(151 vs 159) then it all boils down to better gearing and weight but I think the FR-S might be the winner here but not by much.

lets see...

the FR-S...
-won't need a new engine every 50k miles.
-will get WAY more than 12 MPG.
-won't need oil every gas-tank refill.
-won't break down every 2 weeks.
-has more torque LOL!
-fixing it won't be as much as the rotary engine.
-it's lighter.
-doesn't have Ford parts.

what was the question again?
Responding in order:
- neither does the RX8
- So does the RX8
- neither does the RX8
- neither does the RX8
- No it doesn't
- Depends on what's being fixed
- True
- BFD
There are plenty of reasons the FT86 will be better without getting hyperbolic.

Regardless of how important engine torque/vehicle weight is to you, subatoy listed them separately.

100% agreed. Bashing other cars is uncalled for. I am sure RX-8 is a very nice car. That being said, the guy who started this thread seems to have alredy made up his mind.

Torque to weight is next to meaningless. Not enough info. Power to weight *tells* you something and effectively takes gearing into account.

An L98 C4 Corvette has a "torque to weight" ratio of (3300+200 lb)/350 lb-ft = 10 lb/lb-ft
Power/weight = 3500lb/245hp = 14.3 lb/hp

An S2000 has a "torque to weight" ratio of (2800 +200 lb)/150 lb-ft = 20 lb/lb-ft
Power/weight = 3000lb/237hp = 12.7 lb/hp

The L98 Corvette has TWICE as good a "torque to weight" ratio, but is slower by about .5sec and 4mph in the 1/4. Power to weight tells the REAL story.

Power/weight is everything.
Torque to weight, with no other info, tells you nothing.

I never said power to weight ratio didn't matter. But the conversation wasn't about power.
